In another sure sign of summer in Putnam County, Mike Van Rensselaer will play the first concert of the 2026 season at Robe Ann Park on Tuesday, June 2. Presented by The Greencastle Civic League , Parkfest will take place at the park bandshell at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday (except July 21) in June and July. Van Rensselaer โ€“ performing as Mike Van & Friends and known as Mr. Van to generations of Greencastle students โ€“ is the only performer to have played every single Parkfest over the years. Mondayโ€™s concert will also feature local favorites Black Market Vinyl, with a full slate of local and regional performers in the coming weeks. On this Memorial Day, as we take time to remember the soldiers and sailors who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, we shine a light on the Hurst-Collins American Legion Post in Cloverdale, named for two soldiers from the area who gave their lives during World War I. Pvt. Clyde Hurst succumbed to pneumonia while on active duty on Oct. 12, 1918. Cpl. Lee Roy Collins (pictured) was killed in France during the Battle of the Ourcq on July 28, 1918.

Put Yourself in Putnam

A bit younger than its fellow small towns in Putnam County, Roachdale didnโ€™t come into being until 1880, owing its sudden growth to being the place where the new Indianapolis, Decatur and Springfield Railway intersected with the existing Louisville, New Albany and Chicago Railroad. Fittingly it was named after railroad executive Judge Addison Locke Roach. Today the town pays tribute to that heritage with the locomotive mural on the south wall of the Roachdale Community Center, a building that will soon be home to Town Hall.

Incorporated in 1839, the Town of Cloverdale was named for the large amount of clover found among the dales in the area. Today, Cloverdale is the second-largest incorporate community in Putnam County and serves as the primary entry point for visitors along I-70, as it lies approximately halfway between Indianapolis and Terre Haute. It boasts C-Bar-C Expo Center, six hotels, Clover Meadows Golf Course, and nearby Lieber State Recreation Area among the reasons to visit. Thinking of putting yourself in Putnam County? Cloverdale is a good place to start.
