Today, May 4th, we recognize International Firefighters’ Day—a day to honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our community.

As Fire Chief, I have the privilege of witnessing firsthand the dedication, courage, and selflessness our firefighters show every single day. Whether it’s responding in the middle of the night, missing time with their families, or stepping into dangerous situations without hesitation—this is more than a job, it’s a calling.

I ask our community to join me today in recognizing these individuals. A simple thank you, a wave when you see them, or a message of support goes a long way.

To our firefighters: I am proud to serve alongside you. Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and your impact reaches far beyond the calls you respond to.

Stay safe, and thank you for all that you do.

Yesterday we participated in a disaster preparedness drill at Chatham Subacute with Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department, Chatham Township Police Department, Chatham Township DPW, Chatham EMS, & our Fire official. It was great to see the facilities capabilities and how we can operate in conjunction with them in the event we have to mitigate a dangerous situation. These are the kinds of thing OEM is preparing, training and participating in so if and when a situation arises we are as ready as possible.

The U.S. Wildland Fire program will be attempting (dependent upon favorable weather conditions) a prescribed burn along Pleasant Plains Road tomorrow (April 7th) and Wednesday (April 8th) to improve wildlife habitat and lessen wildfire risk. The entirety of Pleasant Plains Road will be closed beginning tonight at 7PM. The entrance to the refuge at the intersection of Wood Duck Way and Lees Hill Road will reopen at 9:30AM tomorrow so that the Visitor Center can operate with normal hours. The rest of Pleasant Plains Road will remain closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly on Thursday to ensure visitor and firefighter safety. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Prescribed burning removes invading trees and shrubs that would otherwise overtake the fields, helps control non-native plants, and promotes the growth of native warm-season grasses that provide important wildlife habitat. The operation will only take place under favorable weather conditions to keep the fire and smoke manageable.

Congrats brothers!! Strong work and a job well done protecting our community.

A Domestic Violence Call Nearly Turns Fatal
On April 23rd we will be honoring Chatham Township Police Department and other brave first responders at 52nd Annual Valor and Meritorious Awards Celebration.
Our spotlight today is to honor Sergeant Michael Bloom, Patrolman Philip G. Masi, and Patrolman Brian McGrath who in the early morning hours of September 29, 2025, officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home in Chatham Township. They found a woman in the driveway with visible injuries consistent with an assault. Inside a detached garage they found an emotionally unstable, intoxicated, and increasingly agitated man threatening su***de.
Won't you join us in honoring these amazing people by purchasing a sponsorship ad and attending? Click here https://tinyurl.com/5awd9a9p for all the details.

We are very proud to be a part of the "After the Fire" seminar that CHS hosted yesterday. Shawn and Alvaro are 2 survivors of the Seton Hall University fire in 2000. The presentation and commentary was both moving and offered so much educational and insightful information. Their hard work has caused NJ, PA & Kentucky to mandate all college dormitories to have sprinklers. And that's just a small part of all the good work they are doing, and they are not even close to done. We are so happy the staff at CHS included us to watch the assembly and allow Green Village Fire, Chatham Township Fire and Chatham Boro Fire to sponsor the event. We strongly support their safety and educational initiative.

They ask that we support and follow them on Instagram to help them reach their goal of 40k subscribers.
