Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Department

Last night, the Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a lost hiker in Green Mountain Falls.

Crews were able to locate the hiker using our thermal drone. Two GMF/CP volunteers then made their way to the hiker and provided care until El Paso County Search and Rescue arrived.

Due to the difficult terrain, Search and Rescue utilized ropes and harnesses to safely bring the hiker out.

We are incredibly thankful for the volunteers from both agencies who worked together for more than five hours to locate the hiker, provide care, and safely get them out of the backcountry.

This was a great example of teamwork, technology, training, and volunteers coming together when someone needed help most.

Thank you to El Paso County Search and Rescue for your partnership and dedication to our community. Big thanks to the Town of Green Mountain Falls Marshal for coordinating the response.

Prayers for the two Colorado State Patrol officers who were shot in the line of duty today.

As volunteers who regularly work alongside CSP on Highway 24, we get to know and appreciate the people behind the badge—not just the uniform.

We are grateful for the work they do and the risks they take to serve our communities.
