The Village Board of Trustees recently adopted a local law amending Chapter 53-9 of the Village Code regarding animal defecation. The amendment authorizes the Village Code Enforcement Officer(s) to assist with enforcement of the ordinance at the request of the Mayor.

The Village has received numerous complaints regarding pet waste, particularly in the area beneath the Collar City Bridge - along the north side of Market Street, Cannon Street, and other locations throughout the Village.

If you choose to walk your dog, please come prepared with bags and be prepared to clean up after your pet. Picking up after your dog is not only courteous to your neighbors, but it is also required by Village Code.

Residents are advised that enforcement efforts will be increased and tickets will be issued for violations of the ordinance.

Thank you for helping keep our sidewalks, parks, and streets clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Parents and E-Bike Operators: Please Take This Seriously.

We have observed a growing number of unsafe and reckless e-bike and off-road mini/dirt bike operations throughout the village. These behaviors create dangerous situations and significantly increase the risk of serious injury.

The Village of Green Island Police Department will not tolerate continued unsafe operation of e-bikes. Before individuals start riding an e-bike , they should be aware of New York’s rules and regulations regarding these vehicles.

The following are essential laws to be aware of when riding an electric bike:
• The rider MUST be OVER the age of 16
• The rider must ride on either the bike lane or the street
• The motor of an electric bike can’t exceed 750w.
• The speed limit is 20 mph
• Not permitted on roads with speed limits over 30 mph
• Rider must wear a helmet if their e-bike can go over 20 mph, OR they are UNDER 18

A heartfelt thank you to the American Legion Post 927, the Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Auxiliary for their generous donation toward Carter Kits for our community.

Carter Kits are sensory bags filled with carefully selected items designed to provide comfort and support to children on the autism spectrum, as well as other children who may become overwhelmed or be affected by traumatic or stressful situations. These resources can help first responders create a calmer, more reassuring environment during difficult moments.

Thanks to this donation, Carter Kits will now be available in our Police and Fire Department vehicles, ensuring they are readily accessible when needed most.

We are grateful for your continued commitment to supporting the children and families of our community. 💙🚓🚒
