📢 Volunteer Opportunity 📢

Activities Coordinator - Monday-Friday 9:00am-2:00pm

Help bring connection, education, creativity, and a little fun to New Day Women’s Center!

We are looking for a volunteer Activities Coordinator to help plan and organize simple, engaging activities that encourage guests to connect, learn, create, and enjoy time together. This volunteer may help develop a monthly activity calendar, coordinate crafts, games, seasonal activities, small groups or special events, gather needed supplies, and invite other volunteers or community members to share their talents.

Activities can be as simple as a game afternoon, sharing educational information, craft project or something more structured such as a class or special event. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being creative, bringing people together, and turning ideas into experiences that help people flourish and feel welcome and included.

Shifts and frequency of shifts are flexible.

Hall-O-STEAM - October 30, 2026, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Volunteers may choose any start and end time between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Shifts are flexible.

For Hall-O-STEAM, volunteers will be supporting programs so families can enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed STEAM activities throughout the day, including special rotating programs and all-day activity stations designed to encourage experimenting, creating, problem-solving, and play.

Rotating activities include:
• Balloon Ghosts from 10:00–11:00 AM
• Potions in Motion from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM
• Pumpkin Slime from 1:00–2:00 PM
• Trick or Treat Robots from 2:00–3:00 PM

All-day activities include:
• Pumpkin Painting
• Mummy Wrapping
• Feel for Fright Sensory Boxes
• Ghost Train Coding

Volunteers will have a walkthrough prior to their program, and staff will be ready to support!

❤ Daniel Ammerman is our volunteer of the week! ❤

Through Dan's efforts with multiple local non-profit organizations, he has been a key leader in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars that go directly to supporting Wisconsin veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. With the non-profit Team One Mile, Dan is a leadership mentor, cycle rider, fundraiser, and past member of their board of directors. Each year he bicycles 700 miles and helps plan community events in six cities across Wisconsin. He also assists with the Community Foundation of Green Bay's veterans benefit golf outing, volunteering approximately 250 hours annually. In addition, Dan is a member of the board for Veterans 1st of NEW. He helped this non-profit get through the governmental approval process with Brown County and the City of Green Bay, and he helped secure gifts from major donors.

Disabled American Veterans of Wisconsin, H.O.O.A.H Wisconsin, Sons of the American Revolution, De Pere VFW Post 2113, and American Legion Post 11 are just a few of the other organizations to which Dan devotes his time. Cumulatively, his volunteer leadership roles have been instrumental in addressing the core needs of many local veterans, ensuring they and their families receive direct, visible, and quantifiable benefits.

As a U.S. Army Reserve soldier, Dan served his country for 39 years. Now retired, he has rededicated his life to supporting our nation's heroes and their families. Colleagues say his spirit of volunteerism shines through in every aspect of his involvement, as he gives selflessly of his time and energy to make a positive impact and inspire others. Thank you, Dan, for the countless ways you support area veterans, active-duty service members, and their families!

🍂 RAKERS NEEDED! Registration for Rake Up Green Bay 2026 is officially OPEN!

Last year, more than 60 local homeowners asked for help getting their yards ready for winter — but only 25 volunteer groups signed up to rake.

This year, we need YOU!

Gather your coworkers, friends, family, church group, sports team, classmates or organization and spend a few hours making a BIG difference for a neighbor who needs a helping hand.

🍁 Raking begins Saturday, November 7 and continues through the City of Green Bay’s final leaf pickup.

You choose a day that works for your group, and the Volunteer Center will match you with a homeowner who needs your help.

No group is too small — and every rake makes a difference.

Volunteer registration is open through Friday, October 30.

🔴 This week’s Affiliate Partner of the Week is the Green Bay Area Public School District! 🔴

It takes a village to raise a child, and volunteers play an important role in supporting students and staff throughout the District’s 34 schools. With so many schools and programs, there are a variety of ways community members can get involved throughout the year!

GBAPS works with several community partners to connect volunteers with students, including:

📚 **Reading Coaches for Kids** – Volunteers spend one hour each week reading one-on-one with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. No educational background is needed, and training and ongoing support are provided.

🤝 **Big Brothers Big Sisters** – Site-based mentors are matched with elementary students and spend time together during the school day, including during lunch.

💡 **Junior Achievement** – Volunteers bring real-world experiences into the classroom and help students connect what they are learning today with their future goals.

Additional volunteer needs arise throughout the school year, too! GBAPS uses its Volunteer Tracker system to share opportunities and connect community members with schools that need their support.

Reading Coaches for Kids Initial Training Sessions

Nov. 10 (1-3 pm - Green Bay) and Nov. 11 (11 am-1 pm - Pulaski)

Help kids become successful readers. Volunteer as a Reading Coach and make a lasting impact. AmeriCorps Seniors Reading Coaches for Kids is seeking caring adults to spend just one hour a week during the school year supporting K-5 students in Green Bay Area Public Schools, the Pulaski Community School District, or the Unified School District of De Pere (after-school program).

• Make a difference by helping children build reading skills and confidence.
• Stay active and connected through meaningful relationships in your community.
• Enjoy the rewards of seeing students grow and succeed.

❤ Vicki Medland is our volunteer of the week! ❤

After achieving her doctorate in ecology, Vicki began her professional career as associate director of UW-Green Bay's Cofrin Center for Biodiversity. For more than 12 years, she has generously volunteered her time and expertise for New Leaf Foods, helping to establish their Garden Blitz program and their collaborative project, the Brown County Seed Library. Having researched the best seeds to purchase for UW-Green Bay's heirloom plant sale for over two decades, the staff at New Leaf appreciate how much of an asset she is to the seed library team.

The Garden Blitz program installs raised bed gardens at shelters, pantries, schools, parks, libraries, and subsidized and family housing. Because space in raised beds is at a premium, Vicki has shared lessons she’s learned through many years of trial and error to get the most out of these tiny plots. She has taught about soil mixes, selecting seed and plant varieties, germination, and genetics. This helps home gardeners optimize space, maximize productivity, and minimize disease and pests.

Vicki teaches that good food does not originate on the grocery shelf. Rather, it begins in seeds and soil, on farms, and in people’s and cultures’ knowledge of how food is grown, prepared, and shared. She believes that education rooted in good food and a clean environment is foundational to building a healthier, more resilient future for all. Thank you, Vicki, for your inspiring lifelong dedication to sharing knowledge that connects us to our food and farms, our natural environment, and each other!

Sometimes, the Greatest Gift Is Simply Being There.

Unity is looking for companion volunteers who are willing to share their time, and presence with patients living with serious illness.

For someone facing a serious illness, a familiar face and a caring conversation can mean so much. Your weekly visit can become something a patient looks forward to—a chance to talk, laugh, share stories, or simply enjoy having someone there.

As a Companion Volunteer, you may:

Spend meaningful time visiting and socializing with a patient

Listen, talk, share stories, play a game, or simply sit together

Provide companionship and connection for patients who may feel isolated

Give caregivers a much-needed break and an opportunity for respite

Visits may take place in a patient's home, nursing home, assisted living facility, or at Meng Hospice Residence.

Unity is a not-for-profit partnership of Bellin Health, St. Mary's HSHS, and St. Vincent HSHS, caring for patients with serious illnesses while supporting their caregivers and families.

Your Presence Can Make a Difference.

You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need to know exactly what to say.

You just need to be willing to show up, week after week, and be there.

A weekly visit can bring comfort, and a sense of connection during a difficult time. For a patient and their family, knowing that someone is coming to see them can mean more than you may ever realize.

If you have time in your week and a heart for people, we would love to hear from you.
