Our department kicked off Fire Prevention Week this afternoon at Green Bay Metro Fire Station 8, focusing on the importance of lithium-ion battery fire safety. We were joined by Tracy, a local resident who survived a fire caused by a lithium-ion battery, as well as representatives from Brown County Hazardous Waste. This year's National Fire Prevention Week theme, "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower," gave us an opportunity to share local stories and offer tips on preventing battery-related fires in homes.

Lithium-ion batteries are commonly found in devices used every day by the public and first responders. While these batteries are an effective power source, their risk of overheating, catching fire, and even exploding increases if they are damaged or not used, charged, or stored properly.

October 4th - 10th is National Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. During Fire Prevention Week and throughout October, our department provides lifesaving public education to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.

SATURDAY EVENTS & STREET CLOSURES: A heads up for the weekend – it’s going to be busy in downtown Green Bay with four popular events happening on Saturday, October 3rd.

This means, street closures from sunrise to sunset, and lots of pedestrians.

Please plan accordingly if you need to navigate around downtown as it could get tricky. If you are simply trying to pass through, alternate routes of travel are advised.

Bellin Women’s Half Marathon – 8AM-NOON
Fall Fest on Broadway – 11AM-3PM

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Response team recently took part in a training session hosted by the Marinette Fire Department and led by the Madison Civil Support Team (CST). Team members, along with personnel from other nearby fire departments, practiced decontamination techniques and responded to training scenarios involving unknown hazardous materials.

This past weekend, we gathered in Wisconsin Rapids to honor fallen firefighters and emergency medical professionals at the 2026 Annual Final Alarm Ceremony. We paid special tribute to our own Lieutenant Tyler Kreiter, who dedicated 17 years of unwavering service to our department and community.

Lieutenant Kreiter epitomized the values of a Green Bay Metro Firefighter, demonstrating remarkable courage throughout his tenure and exceptional resilience in his battle against cancer.

In remembrance of Lieutenant Tyler Kreiter, LODD 12-12-24. "Gone but Not Forgotten."
