Truly a community leader and great soul.

Today, a chair was empty at the board meeting.

And while meetings continue, agendas move forward, and motions still get made… it was impossible not to feel the weight of who was missing.

This week, our community lost one of its biggest hearts.

Paul Grall was the kind of person who quietly made things better everywhere he went. Whether he was helping a family find a home, sharing his love of music, talking about horses and sunsets, or simply showing up for others — Paul lived with a warmth that made people feel instantly welcomed.

At NeighborWorks Green Bay, Paul dedicated more than 14 years of service. He wasn’t just a board member — he was part of the foundation that helped shape so much of what NeighborWorks became. He was instrumental in the inception of the counseling and lending committees, helping create opportunities that opened doors for countless families in our community.

And Paul brought people with him. Committee members. Future board members. Families looking for homes. He believed deeply in community and spent years helping others find their place within it. Even his beloved dog, Wolfie, made appearances at committee and board meetings — bringing joy, conversation, and an extra sense of comfort into the room, just like Paul always did himself.

The stories shared this week — of horses, sunsets, laughter, music, kindness, and service — paint such a beautiful picture of a life lived fully and generously.

The NeighborWorks Green Bay Board and staff extend our deepest sympathy to Paul’s family and to the many people throughout this community whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but his passion for people, community, and connection will continue to live on through the work and relationships he helped build.

Thank you, Paul, for leaving this community better than you found it. ❤️

We remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military.

The origins of Memorial Day date back to May 1868, when General John Logan, commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, a national organization of Union veterans, called on members to observe May 30 as a day to remember soldiers who died during the Civil War. Waterloo, New York, became the first community to officially recognize the observance, and by 1890, the holiday had been adopted across the northern states.

Following World War I, Memorial Day evolved to honor all Americans who died while serving in the military, not only those lost in the Civil War. In 1971, Congress officially designated Memorial Day as a federal holiday to be observed on the last Monday in May.
