Work started today on Shawano Avenue! Our crews are milling and paving this busy corridor to smooth out the rough pavement and extend the life of the road. Lanes remain open in both directions, but are narrower than usual — please slow down and drive carefully through the work zone. Thank you for your patience, Green Bay!

Recycling correctly is just as important as recycling consistently. When materials that do not belong end up in the bin, such as paper cups, shredded paper, aerosol cans, or drinking glassware, they can contaminate loads that would otherwise be recycled successfully. When you are not sure whether something belongs in your curbside bin, check the list before it goes in. Brown County's recycling guide is available at browncountyrecycling.org/recycling-acceptable-material, and you can also search for specific materials at recyclemoreoutagamie.org. The more we all recycle right, the more Green Bay benefits. ♻️

Cardboard is one of the most recyclable materials there is, and Green Bay residents put a lot of it out. To make sure it makes it through the recycling process efficiently, please break down boxes and cut cardboard to no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet before placing it in your bin. Large unbroken boxes can block other materials and create problems during collection and sorting. Flattened cardboard takes up less space and moves through the system much more effectively. Every box you flatten helps us do more with our recycling program. Thank you. ♻️

This is one of the most important things Green Bay residents can do to improve our recycling: keep plastic bags, wraps, and films out of the curbside recycling bin. Plastic bags get tangled in the sorting equipment at the recycling facility, causing slowdowns and damage that affect the entire process. The good news is that plastic bags can be recycled. Most major grocery stores have dedicated drop-off bins for plastic bags and film. Please use those, and keep your curbside bin free for the materials that belong there. Together, we can make sure more of what we collect actually gets recycled. ♻️

Green Bay Department of Public Works reminds residents that recycling is easier than you might think. Our community uses single stream recycling, meaning paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, aluminum and steel cans, and glass food and beverage jars all go in one curbside bin. No sorting required and no need to check plastic numbers. Placing the right materials in your bin helps reduce landfill waste and keeps our recycling system running efficiently. For a full list of accepted items, visit browncountyrecycling.org/recycling-acceptable-material

Rinsing your recyclables before placing them in your bin makes a real difference. Leftover food or liquid can contaminate other materials, turning items that could be recycled into waste. Taking a moment to rinse bottles, jars, and containers helps ensure they stay in the recycling stream.

Green Bay is part of a strong regional recycling system, and your efforts help keep it running efficiently. Every clean item you set out supports a more sustainable community. Thanks for doing your part to keep recycling working.
