NWTC Early Childhood Education The Early Childhood Education program prepares students to work as teacher-caregivers in early child

The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for a professional career in early childhood education, including preschool, childcare, and exceptional education settings serving children from birth to age eight. It is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary in the field of child development and early education and care. Students learn, first hand, about the ch

ildcare community and the roles and responsibilities of the Early Childhood Teacher within the classroom. The applied skill development afforded with the Practicum (student teaching) placement provides the student with an intensive and meaningful learning experience, through authentic interactions with children and childcare professionals.

NWTC’s Early Childhood Education program has earned national accreditation from the The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for the first time — a recognition that reflects the high standards, hands-on preparation, and quality learning experiences students receive throughout the program.

This achievement speaks to the dedication of our faculty, the hard work of our students, and our commitment to preparing future educators who are ready to support young learners from day one.

We’re proud to help shape the next generation of early childhood educators who will make a meaningful impact in classrooms and communities across our region.

In the new Exchange Community Voices article, "When the Work Fits the Human: Designing Organizations Where People Want to Stay," Karen Foster-Jorgensen invites us to rethink leadership in early childhood.

When we align roles with people’s strengths and ways of processing the world, something shifts. Energy grows. Meaning deepens. And joy becomes part of the everyday.

The most important partnership in early childhood education is between educators and families. Family Friday is when we say that out loud.

To every educator who shows up for both: thank you. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

Play is the work of childhood. Art is how children process, express, and make meaning before language can carry all of it. Artsy Thursday is a celebration of educators who protect that space — and a challenge to anyone still treating arts and play as optional. Tasty Tuesday-April 14-WOYC One of the most powerful things an early childhood educator can do is make a child feel like their home and family are honored in their early learning program. Happy Week of the Young Child! The science on music and early learning is some of the most robust we have. Phonological awareness, emotional regulation, memory, social development — music touches all of it. Music Monday is a chance to celebrate the educators and the research that backs their practice. We support families in Wisconsin. What are you doing for Family Strengthening Month in April?

April is Family Strengthening Month 💙

This month, we come together to shine a light on the importance of keeping children safe, supported, and nurtured. Every child deserves a home and community where they feel loved, valued, and protected.

Prevention starts with strong families, strong communities, and strong connections. Small acts—listening, offering help, showing empathy—can make a big difference in a child’s life.

💙 Wear blue.
🌱 Plant a pinwheel.
🤝 Support a family.
📣 Speak up for children who need a voice.

Together, we can build a safer, healthier future for all children.
