Green Bay Police Dept Mounted Patrol Unit

Green Bay Police Dept Mounted Patrol Unit WI- Green Bay Police Department has recently added a MOUNTED PATROL UNIT! This Unit's primary goal is Community Outreach.

In a state of worry between the Public and Law Enforcement, the MPU is hoping to close that gap, making Officers Approachable and Visible. While we're working with funding from the Green Bay Police Foundation, and a small start up budget, there are many needs going unfilled right now. GBPD MPU has teamed up with Moonlit Meadows Performance Horses, LLC, to stable, train, and haul their horses and o

fficers, as well as lease horses and equipment. Some additional needs of the MPU right now are their own saddles (Continental Saddlery has GRACIOUSLY offered a high quality saddle at wholesale pricing for the MPU) They are desiring to purchase 2-4 new saddles with a cost of nearly $1800 per saddle. (~$7200)
Saddle blankets, depicting the GBPD MPU logo are $150 each, plus the under pad at $150 each (for the comfort of the horse). (~$1200) Bridles, bits and reins have been provided by the Milwaukee MPU at their cost of $75 each. (~$300)
While GBPD MPU is acquiring many items at or near wholesale, there are still many costs involved. Basic health care needs, stabling, transportation, and officer trainings are daily expenses. A horse trailer was generously donated by the Jim Dost family, and Scott's Industrial has donated the repair/painting of this trailer. Tires, brakes, rubber mats, and wiring maintenance are costs associated with this trailer. (~$1500)
The horses and officers need to be outfitted for safety and comfort. Each officer has purchased their own training helmets and boots, and now need patrol gear, with logos, as well as riding boots and pants. The cost of the boots and pants for each officer is expected to be roughly $300. (~$3000)
We appreciate any monetary support or sharing with your friends (or both!).

We were invited to St Paul’s picnic today. We were reminded why we do what we do by one of the pastors. He said some of the Hispanic families told him that their children had been afraid of the police, but were no longer afraid after meeting us. Police work isn’t always easy, but it’s those kind of moments that keep our officers motivated through all the tough times.

Today is the final day of the Brown County Fair. Don’t let the morning rain deter you, it should pass by lunch. If we aren’t walking around the grounds, we will be in the south horse barn. Meanwhile, enjoy some photos from the past few days.

Almost rodeo time! If you’re not at the Brown County Fair yet, you still have an hour to get here!

Axel’s training continued with some more challenging situations today. Axel was exposed to railroad tracks, a water fountain, heavy traffic, and stairs. These are all unnatural things for a prey animal to experience, but his confidence and bravery grow with every training and deployment.
