INCIDENT RELEASE
Fire on Green Bay's West Side
1/8/25 06:04 AM - The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a structure fire early this morning in the 1100 block of Royal Boulevard. Initial reports from dispatch indicated a possible person trapped inside the residence while fire crews were en route. Upon arrival, fire crews observed significant smoke emanating from both the front door and garage door. Two occupants successfully evacuated the home, while a third remained inside. Engine 3 rapidly located the individual and safely removed them from the property. All three occupants were subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Firefighters faced active fire in the basement and kitchen. Complications arose from a downed power line in the backyard that was sparking and hindering access for the crews. To bolster their efforts, the incident was escalated to an 'All Hands Alert - Working Still' at 6:25 AM, calling for additional resources to assist at the scene. Due to compromised floors and the overall instability of the structure, fire crews shifted from an interior attack to a defensive strategy. Shortly after this change, a portion of the first floor of the home collapsed. The fire was officially contained by 7:40 AM, with crews continuing to perform overhaul and salvage operations thereafter. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Fire Marshals.
We want to emphasize the critical role of working smoke alarms, as they played a vital part in alerting the occupants to evacuate the home. This incident serves as an important reminder of the life-saving potential of smoke alarms. We extend our gratitude to the Brown County Public Safety Communications, the Green Bay Police Department, WPS, Green Bay Water, and the Red Cross for their invaluable assistance during this incident.
