Starting today, the City of Green Bay is updating how we use our social media pages. Going forward, our pages will continue to be dedicated to sharing City news, updates, events, and important information with our community. Comments and direct messaging will no longer be available on our posts and pages.

Why the change? We want to make sure that when you need to reach us, your message gets to the right people and receives a timely response. Social media was never designed to be a reliable way to communicate with your local government, and we want to do better than that.

Here is how to connect with us directly:
- Visit greenbaywi.gov for department contacts, services, and information
- Submit a service request to Green Bay Services anytime at greenbaywi.gov/gbs
- Email any department directly through our online directory at greenbaywi.gov
- Call (920) 448-3000 to reach City Hall

These channels are monitored by City staff and are the fastest way to get answers, report concerns, or share feedback. Our social media pages will continue to be a great resource for staying informed about what is happening in Green Bay.

Thank you for following along, and thank you for being part of our community.

Happy Earth Day ๐ŸŒ

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer groups that came to help remove invasive garlic mustard! We had groups from Aston Carter, Emplify, Aldo Leopold School, and the O.A.K. Learning Center 4K. Together, we removed over 200 gallons of invasive species!

The crew was also able to install our brand new hoop house, which will house the native plants for our plant kit giveaway! Winners were notified via email earlier today.

Want to still celebrate Earth Day more? Us too! We have 3 more events this week:

๐Ÿ’šFriday, April 24 from 7 PM to 8 PM: Friday Night Frogs at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
Come learn the different calls of Wisconsin frogs and take a short night hike to listen to our frogs.

๐Ÿ’šSaturday, April 25 from 11 AM to 2 PM: Newberry Conservancy Clean Up
Meet us at the parking lot of Preble High School to pick up garbage, remove invasive species, and plant native shrubs in the Newberry Conservancy.

๐Ÿ’šSaturday, April 25 from 3:30 PM to 5 PM: Stream Walk at Baird Creek
Come see what lives in the creek and the woods at Baird Creek. This is part of the City Nature Challenge series of events.

Are you going to the free Badger Talks webinar โ€œBeneficial Backyard Bugsโ€ next weekend? We are!

Wisconsin is home to more than 20,000 insect speciesโ€”and most of them are helping us, not harming us! This engaging presentation explores the many ways insects benefit our gardens and ecosystems, and how common beneficial insects are right here in our own communities.

While this webinar can be watched from anywhere, we invite you to gather with fellow gardeners at the library for a special in-person viewing experience. Attendees at the library will have the opportunity to:

โ€ข Participate in live Q&A with PJ Liesch via Zoom
โ€ข Browse a curated selection of related books
โ€ข Learn about the โ€œNeighbors for Natureโ€ native plant giveaway from Maria Otto, Conservation Corps
โ€ข Chat with Master Gardeners and get answers to your gardening questions
โ€ข Stay after the program for light snacks, drinks, and informal conversation

Advance registration is required. Please register using the link below to attend this free public Badger Talks event. Registrants may choose to watch virtually from anywhere or attend the in-person viewing party at the library.
This is a chance to connect with like-minded community members and grow our shared knowledgeโ€”together.

Fall and winter might look quiet, but our crew is hard at work cutting invasive shrubs like common buckthorn. One of the questions we hear most is:

Instead of letting it go to waste, we put it to work.

Some of the cut material is transformed into ๐™—๐™ž๐™ค๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™งโ€”a charcoal-like substance created by burning wood in specialized kilns that trap carbon in the process. Itโ€™s a win-win: we reduce waste and lock carbon out of the atmosphere.

Our Forestry team then uses biochar when planting trees. It acts like a nutrient sponge, holding onto water and essential nutrients to support healthier, stronger growth.

Restoration doesnโ€™t stop at removalโ€”itโ€™s about building something better from what we take out.
