Helen Keller DeafBlind Awareness Week serves as a reminder that accessibility includes communication access, assistive technology, and equitable participation for individuals with combined hearing and vision loss.

The 2026 campaign theme, “Connected by Touch: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges,” emphasizes the importance of tactile communication, braille, haptics, and other accessible methods that support connection, education, employment, and independence.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) intersects with these efforts by reinforcing protections related to effective communication, reasonable accommodations, and equal access across workplaces, government services, and public accommodations.

Recognizing DeafBlind Awareness Week helps promote greater understanding of how accessibility supports participation in every aspect of society. Helen Keller Services - https://www.helenkeller.org/dbaw2026/.
