🚧Update: Parking Lot Paving Project🚧

Starting Monday, June 22nd, the sheriff’s office paving project will shift from phase 4 (black outline) to phase 3 (yellow outline).

This will close the East entrance from the jail parking lot to “O” street, so the West entrance will become 2-way for the duration of the phase 3 construction. There will be cones and barricades to manage traffic flow into and out of the parking lot, as well as arrows painted on the ground to direct everyone.

🟦 The public will continue to have dedicated parking in the Phase 2 area (blue outline).

Parking access to the Jail portion of 2 East, the Law Enforcement Administration building, and the Public Health building will be from 17th street. There will be a sidewalk and temporary walkway access from the jail lobby to the Law Enforcement Administration building and Public Health building throughout the project.

Weld County man taken into custody after fleeing traffic stop

What starts as a quiet night for our night shift patrol can turn busy in an instant.

Just after 2:30 A.M. yesterday morning a Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Sentra at Pelican Lane and Pelican Way (near the city of Evans). The deputy reportedly witnessed the driver of the Nissan drive through a flashing red light without coming to a complete stop.

The deputy contacted the driver, who was later identified as 25 year old Amada Hernandez Garcia and suspected he was impaired.

The deputy returned to his patrol car to continue his investigation, and he noticed the Nissan’s brake lights came on indicating the vehicle was likely shifting into gear. The deputy approached the driver’s side window and ordered Hernandez Garcia to stop, but he reportedly drove off.

After searching the area, the deputy who initiated the traffic stop eventually found the Nissan partially off the roadway in an embankment. As the deputy approached the car, he saw someone inside the vehicle that appeared to be Hernandez-Garcia trying to climb out of the car window. The deputy ordered Hernandez-Garcia to show his hands. Hernandez-Garcia fell out of the car, and onto the ground. Once Hernandez-Garcia got to his feet, he fled, and the deputy chased after him on foot. The deputy ended the foot pursuit by firing his taser at Hernandez-Garcia. Once Hernandez-Garcia fell to the ground, the deputy was able to handcuff him. Emergency medical services arrived, and transported Hernandez-Garcia to a local hospital.

At the hospital, while trying to move Hernandez-Garcia, his restraints were temporarily released, and he reportedly assaulted a member of the medical staff. After Hernandez-Garcia was medically cleared from the hospital, he was transported to the Weld County jail where he faces charges of:
• Second Degree Assault - Police Off/Fireman Minor Injury
• Criminal Mischief $300 - $1000 Private
• Obstructing Peace Officer/Police Animal/Fireman
• Vehicular Eluding
• Failed To Drive in a Single Lane (Weaving) (Traffic)
• Drove Vehicle While Under Influence
• Possessed Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Vehicle
• Failure To Display Proof of Insurance (Traffic)
• Failed To (Remain At/Return To) Accident Scene (Traffic)
• Failed To Obey Traffic Control Signal (Traffic)

Weld County Deputy arrested following an investigation

[Weld County, COLO.] Yesterday, just before 5 P.M. Alex Porter, 23, was arrested on suspicion of:

• Assault In the Third Degree (DV) - 2 Counts
• Stalking-Repeatedly Follow-(DV)
• First Degree Official Misconduct (DV)
• Tampering With Physical Evidence (DV)
• Harassment - Strikes/Shoves/Kicks (DV) - 3 Counts
following an investigation by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office into allegations of domestic violence.

The alleged conduct occurred on or about the last week of May, 2026. The sheriff’s office learned of the allegations through an internal investigation that took place over the course of the last week.

Porter is a post-certified patrol deputy, who has been employed with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office for 4 years. He is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal and criminal investigations.

“Law enforcement officers are expected to hold themselves to a higher standard than the average citizen. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred, but justice must be applied equally” said, Weld County Sheriff, Steve Reams.

This is an active, ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations until, and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Weld County Deputies Arrest Man after pursuit through Evans and Greeley

[Weld County, COLO.] Last night just before 10 P.M. a Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy was at the intersection of 47th Ave and 37th Street (near Evans) and witnessed a Chrysler Crossfire drive on the sidewalk skirt of the roundabout island. The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, suspecting the driver may be impaired near the intersection of 35th Ave and 37th Street. The driver of the Crossfire allegedly accelerated through the intersection despite the red light and continued to increase speed and failed to yield to the deputy.

The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as 47-year-old Antonio Aldama, continued driving at speeds significantly over the posted limit, and failed to yield to the deputy. The deputy noted during various points throughout the course of the pursuit Aldama allegedly drove in the opposing lane of travel, drove through at least 3 red lights and at least 6 stop sign controlled intersections, with the top speed reaching approximately 74 miles per hour through the urban areas of Evans and Greeley.

In the 1200 block of 9th Street in Greeley, Aldama’s vehicle became disabled and he fled on foot. The deputy charged Aldama and while he was in the process of taking Aldama to the ground Aldama allegedly headbutted him. While on the ground, Aldama continued to resist, until a Greeley Police Officer assisted the deputy in restraining him.

After investigating, Aldama was arrested on suspicion of:
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Drug Paraphernalia-Possess
• Second Degree Assault-Police Off/Fireman Minor Injury
• Menacing
• Criminal Possession of an Identification Document
• Resisting Arrest
• Vehicular Eluding
• Drove Vehicle When License Revoked
• Drove Vehicle While Under the Influence
• Possessed an Open Ma*****na Container in a Vehicle (Traffic)
• Drove Vehicle Upon Sidewalk (Traffic)
• Violation of Parole Warrant-Fugitive of Justice Wanted by Another Agency

After Aldama was evaluated and medically cleared at a local hospital, he was booked into the Weld County Jail. Weld County Sheriff’s Office booking staff could not get a mugshot of Aldama as he was uncooperative. The accompanying mugshot is from June 18, 2024.

We’d like to thank the Greeley Police Department, Evans Police Department, and the Garden City Police Department for their assistance with this case.

This is an active, ongoing, investigation and no further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, unless proven guilty in a court of law.

WCSO needs answers: Robin Nelson left her son in the care of a friend in Denver and never returned

On June 7, 1988, Denver native, Robin Denise Nelson, left her son at a friend's residence. When she didn’t return for him, the friend called the Denver Police Department.

On the afternoon of June 12, 1988, a deceased female body in the advanced stages of decomposition was discovered at WCR 8 and the I-25 West Frontage Road near Dacono. Initially, investigators were unable to identify the remains of the female body.

On June 14, 1988, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was able to identify the body found on June 12 as 22-year-old Robin Nelson. An investigation into Robin’s activities prior to her death did not reveal any potential suspects. When Robin was alive, she was an acquaintance of Tammy Lynn Cheeks, who also has an open cold case with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

Although the Weld County Coroner determined Robin died due to a drug overdose, there are suspicious circumstances surrounding her death that need to be answered.
