I was driving down Long Pond when something caught my eye - a sign you’ve probably driven by hundreds of times: the entrance sign to the Kentucky Crossing neighborhood.

I noticed a gentleman out there carefully painting the sign and making it look beautiful, so I had to stop and thank him, assuming he was a resident of the neighborhood.

When I introduced myself, I learned that his name was Pastor Desmond Singh, from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He is visiting family who, as it turns out, live right here in the neighborhood!

Desmond is a pastor at Gospel Assembly Church back in Canada. He comes to Greece every summer to visit his family, and for the past few summers, he’s taken some of his vacation time to work on and beautify that entrance sign.

Thank you, Pastor Singh, for spending a little bit of your vacation giving back to our community and making the entrance to Kentucky Crossing look so beautiful.

Stopped by to check on the progress of the pond restoration project at Northwood Drive and Long Pond yesterday. I was impressed with the great work our town crews are doing!

The next step is seeding grass around the pond. Over time, sediment, leaves and other material build up and reduce a pond’s capacity. Regular clean-outs help keep these critical systems functioning properly - especially important given the heavy rains and flooding we’ve experienced.

And I’m happy to report: the famous beautiful willow tree in the corner is thriving!

Now that everyone is talking about the Lake, I’d much rather see the President focus on addressing the disastrous Plan 2014 treaty, which I believe has caused more flooding and done far more harm than good. It has negatively impacted our shoreline and, as a result, our entire town.

I’d also care a lot more about protecting our lake from proposals coming out of Albany for floating solar panels and offshore wind development. Our lake and shoreline deserve thoughtful, responsible protection - not more policies, projects or gimmicks that could put them at further risk.

Stopped by Taste of the Town today and ran into our former State Senator, Joe Robach!

I’ve known Joe since he was one of my T-ball coaches with Greece Little League, and I’ve always been grateful for his advice and friendship over the years.

I was happy to see this popular event back! Thanks to all of the vendors who took part - I hope everyone had a successful day. The food was delicious, but I really enjoyed being reminded once again of all the great people who make Greece such a wonderful place to call home!

Last night at the Town Board meeting, we were presented with a petition signed by neighbors from Chesterton Road. Their concerns are serious and completely legitimate: the neighborhood has experienced extreme flooding, with some basements taking on 3–4 feet of water multiple times.

The financial cost is significant. So are the potential health risks, including mold and other issues that can result from repeated flooding. And there’s the constant anxiety of wondering whether your basement will flood every time heavy rain is in the forecast.

The neighbors are asking for answers - and they deserve them.

In response, the Supervisor directed the Commissioner of Public Works to meet with the neighbors directly and hear their concerns firsthand. I also promised them action.

This morning, I went door to door in the neighborhood to speak with additional residents, document their concerns and bring that information back to DPW. At the same time, crews were out inspecting and mapping the sewer system to identify areas for improvement, and the Commissioner was on site personally inspecting basements as well.

Neighbors, we hear you - and we are on it!

The Greece Town Board meeting is tonight, August 20 at 6:00 PM. Attached is a copy of the meeting agenda for your reference.

I’d like to highlight some of the agenda items:

Public Hearing: We will hold a public hearing to consider transferring 11.7 acres of surplus land to Munipro. The property is located along the Gates/Greece border.

#3: Police Body Cameras
We will vote to authorize the Greece Police Department to apply for a grant to purchase body cameras. This is an important investment in trust and transparency for both our officers and the public they serve.

#6: New Business Coming to Long Pond Road
Exciting news! The former funeral home on Long Pond Road, next to Country Village Plaza, has a potential new owner and a small business will be moving in. Stay tuned for more details!

#7: Historic Preservation Board
We will appoint five members to the newly reestablished Historic Preservation Board. Last month, we voted to bring back this important board and now we will appoint its members so they can begin serving on September 1.

#17: Investing in Our Infrastructure
Our town’s infrastructure is falling behind — roads, sewers and sidewalks all need attention. Our Department of Public Works has requested funding to address these issues. Investing in the roads, sewers and sidewalks our families depend on every day is very important to me and I will continue to make it a priority without raising taxes to pay for it.

#20: Did You Know?!
As part of the town’s sustainability efforts, we sell the surplus leaf and brush compost generated at the transfer station on Flynn Road. So when you bring your brush there, know that it is being recycled and put to good use!

Don Riley has been a longtime mentor and friend. I’m incredibly grateful for all I’ve learned and continue to learn from him.

His leadership in conservation and commitment to preserving the places that make Greece special have left a lasting legacy in our Town.

These 375 acres are a tremendous asset to the Town of Greece - beautiful open space, a unique natural environment and a home to countless wildlife. As a member of the Town Board, I believe we have a responsibility to be good stewards of places like this and to make protecting our remaining open space a priority. Don’s leadership showed us that conservation and responsible growth can go hand in hand.

I appreciated the opportunity to work with Supervisor McCann on this recognition. It’s a fitting way to honor Don!
