Great Pond Vehicle Excise Update - We will no longer be using Aurora for our Excise Payments effective March 1 2026.

Beginning March 1, 2026 we will begin collecting Vehicle Excise in Great Pond again. We will be an Excise Only town. We will not be doing registrations or providing plates, only collecting excise.

If you are doing a Registration Renewal you can visit the link under Resources for Maine's Rapid Renewal. We encourage residents to use this service as it allows you to pay your excise and registration fees online without having to visit any local offices! After payment is received your excise is automatically deposited to the town and your registration/stickers/tags are mailed to you.

If you want to use Rapid Renewal but do not have a computer or need help completing your renewal using the service, you can come by the town hall during scheduled hours or reach out to schedule an appointment at another time and I am happy to assist you.

If you need to do a Renewal and do not want to use the Rapid Renewal service or you need to Register a vehicle, you will need to stop by during scheduled hours or reach out for an appointment. We will collect the excise tax only for your registration and then you will need to visit a local BMV office (I would recommend Ellsworth) to complete your registration process.

Office Hours for Excise Taxes can be found below (and are posted at the Town Hall).

2nd Wednesday of the Month from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM.

All other hours will be by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
To schedule an appointment reach out to our Tax Collector by email at [email protected] or you can call (207) 401-1836. When requesting an appointment please keep in mind times will vary but most likely will be on Wednesday afternoons or Saturdays.

Casella Trash Update 2.24 - confirmed this morning they are planning to return and finish the service at Great Pond today.

Please have your trash out for service. Thank you!

01/26/2026

Update from Casella on Trash Service 1.26 - just to clarify everyone will be serviced 1 day later. Monday services Tuesday, Tuesday services Wednesday, and so on. Be safe, stay in, stay warm!

"As a result of the impending storm, we have made the tough choice to shutdown operations tomorrow. This decision does not come lightly, we pride ourselves on reliable service, placing the safety of our crew and the communities we serve above all else.

In light of the storm and related impacts, we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to stay off the roads and allow state and local employees the opportunity to clear roads of hazards for unobstructed access starting Tuesday morning.

We thank you for your understanding during this process. As stated, all our routes will be a day behind this week, just as if it were a Monday holiday.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

⚠️ Service Alert: Potential Winter Weather Impacts for the Week of January 26 ⚠️

Due to the significant winter weather affecting our service area, some customers may experience delays in collection services.

For the most up-to-date information about your specific service area, please visit: www.casella.com/service-alerts

Safety remains our first priority for all of our employees and the customers and communities we serve.

You can help ensure everyone on the Casella team gets home safely to their families when they are done. Here's a quick list of reminders:

✅ Make sure your bins have been cleared of snow.
✅ Make sure your bins have not been plowed in.
✅ Allow your driver extra time to get to your service location.
✅ Slow down to get around our drivers when they are servicing.

Our drivers make everyone's safety their top priority, so sometimes they must decide not to service a particular road to protect everyone from potential injury or property damage.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Winter weather conditions are creating challenging and, in some cases, unsafe driving conditions across parts of Casella’s service area. As a result, collection may be delayed or temporarily unavailable in certain locations where road conditions limit safe access as the safety of our employees and...

Trash Service Update from Casella 12/31

Due to the weather and icy road conditions along with the coming snow tonight -- trash pick up not completed in Great Pond and Aurora will be done on Monday 1/5.

Casella will service 2 weeks of trash on that day to get us all cleaned up.

I know this decision wasn't made lightly. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Trash service update 12/30 - Great Pond and parts of Aurora.

Due to the icy conditions they had to pull the truck in for safety reasons. As roads are forecasted to be worse today due to the drop in temperatures they are working to determine when the best time will be to finish the services.

This is not ideal after the holiday and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

I'll post any updates as they are received. Thank you.
