Great Falls Fire Department, Great Falls, SC

Great Falls Fire Department, Great Falls, SC The Great Falls Fire Department provides fire services to the Town of Great Falls and surrounding areas. We are a combination Paid/Volunteer Dept.

The Great Falls Fire Department has been a member of the South Carolina Firemen's Association since 1969 when the department was housed in a two-bay building that is now the Sanitation Department. The little department soon outgrew its confines - literally, one of our trucks was too long for the bays! - and moved into a renovated car dealership shortly after it closed. It's still there today, at 5

06-A Chester Ave. The Fire Department currently shares its building with Chester County EMS unit 3, one of four EMS units in the county. The Great Falls Fire Department is currently composed of both paid and volunteer fire fighters, as well as a volunteer support staff. The support staff supplies admin, IT, and public information assistance to the department. Whether or not you're interested in fire fighting, there is truly a place for anyone who wants to serve the department and their community. If you would like to volunteer with us, we would love for your to join our volunteer family. Please visit the volunteer page of our website to learn how you, too, can bring your time and talents to the department and to the citizens of Great Falls, SC. As a reminder, South Carolina does have a "Move Over" law. Just last week, one of our patrol vehicles ( Lancaster) was sideswiped by a passing vehicle while on a traffic stop. It was on a four lane highway with minimal traffic and there was plenty of opportunity for the driver to move to the left lane.

Whenever you're approaching police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, or tow trucks on the side of the road with flashing lights you must move over the next lane, if possible, on a multi-lane roadway. If it's a two lane road or you can't safely move over, you must significantly reduce your speed to the point where a collision can be avoided. Different laws cover work crews, but the same principle applies: move over if possible and slow down if you can't move over.

The side of the roadway is one of the most dangerous work environments in the world. Please do your part to make sure the folks working there make it home safely.

While out maintaining hydrants today a large number of people have stopped to admire our newly acquired apparatus.
This H1 hummer is on loan from the SC Forrestry Commission at no cost to tax payers, to replace our old brush truck that had some mechanical issues. When received the lights and siren were replaced in house by the paid staff as well as the volunteers at no cost to the county or town.
