Why become an EMT?

Volunteer EMTs are a vital part of emergency medical services in Grayson County. Every day, dedicated volunteers answer calls for medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, cardiac arrests, falls, and other situations where minutes can make the difference between life and death.

Like many rural communities across Virginia, Grayson County continues to face a shortage of EMS providers. By becoming an EMT, you can gain valuable lifesaving skills, serve your neighbors during their time of greatest need, and help ensure that emergency medical care remains available throughout our county.

Whether you're looking to start a career in EMS, expand your emergency response skills, or simply give back to your community, this class is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Join us and become part of the next generation of EMS providers serving Grayson County.

🚨 County-Wide Joint Water Rescue Training – June 27, 2026 🚨

The members of Fries Fire and Rescue, along with Grayson County Emergency Services, invite and strongly encourage all Grayson County Fire, EMS, and Rescue agencies to participate in a county-wide joint water rescue training exercise on Saturday, June 27, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM at New River Trail State Park in Fries.

This training is designed to strengthen interagency coordination, improve operational readiness, and enhance our collective ability to respond to water-related emergencies throughout Grayson County.

Topics will include:
βœ… Site Survey and Preplanning
βœ… Type and Proper Use of PFDs
βœ… Recognizing a Drowning Victim
βœ… Incident Action Plans and the Water Rescue Sequence
βœ… Rope Systems for Water Rescues
βœ… Communications
βœ… Supporting the Mission

All available members are encouraged to attend. Agencies are also asked to bring an inventory of any water rescue equipment and resources they have available. This will allow us to discuss capabilities across the county, identify available assets, and improve our ability to support one another during emergencies.

Important: Anyone planning to enter the water must have a PFD and helmet.

Working together before an emergency occurs is the key to a successful response when it matters most. We hope to see representation from every Grayson County agency as we continue building a stronger, safer, and more prepared emergency services community.

Recently, we responded to a critical call in our community. Multiple Baywood providers, including 4 Paramedics, answered the call to help our neighbor.

Incidents like these highlight the importance of training, teamwork, and strong partnerships between all emergency responders. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our neighbors and work alongside dedicated professionals who share the same commitment to helping others.

Baywood Search and Rescue Squad would like to thank our response partners, including Twin County E-911, Grayson County Emergency Services, Galax Fire Department, Grayson County Sheriff's Office-Virginia, and the flight crew from AirCare Atrium Health. The strength of our community comes from neighbors helping neighbors, and we are proud to stand alongside these agencies in service to the citizens of our community.
