Veterans Path to Hope of Lake County

This free, Veteran-staffed resource and drop-in center welcomes all Service Members, Veterans, and Family Members. All information is confidential.

Lake County Veterans and Family Services Foundation mission is to work through a network of agencies to help military personnel, veterans and their families face challenges before, during and after deployments. We offer FREE support services to veterans, active duty service members and their families in a confidential setting. Any American veteran with any type of discharge. Active duty service me

mbers in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, including Reserves and National Guard. Family members/support persons of veterans or military service members. Families of the fallen. Veterans, service members and their families are invited to find support for:

Homelessness
Linkage to benefits
Sexual trauma
Post traumatic stress
Traumatic brain injury
Grief and loss of those who didn't make it home
Deployment, re-deployment, discharge and re-integration adjustment issues
Depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, problems with substance abuse

OOHRAH, ANNA! 🦅🌎⚓
If you've spent any time around Veterans Path to Hope, you've probably met our famous cardboard cutout, Anna. She's been showing up in photos, events, and around the office for years!

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming the real Anna to our office. Anna is a Marine Corps veteran and was one of the very first Peer Support Specialists when our drop-in center opened in 2010. Her dedication helped lay the foundation for the support and community that veterans continue to find at VPH today.

Even though the cardboard Anna is in an Army uniform, she looked so much like the real Marine Anna that she was considered a twin from another branch!

Thank you, Anna, for your service, your support, and for inspiring both the real and cardboard versions of yourself to keep showing up for veterans.

Today, we honor Juneteenth—a powerful day of reflection, celebration, and a reminder of the enduring journey toward freedom and equality.

As we commemorate the freedom of all enslaved people in the United States, we also take a moment to recognize and salute the profound contributions, courage, and resilience of Black service members throughout our nation's history. From the front lines to our local communities, their legacy of sacrifice and leadership shapes the path forward for us all.

Today is about community, unity, and honoring the truth of our history. Let’s celebrate freedom together and continue working toward a brighter, more supportive future for every veteran and family.

Look who stopped by our HQ! 🐻⬇️
We were thrilled to welcome Mia Riese, the Community Outreach Manager for the Chicago Bears Football Club! She dropped off some incredible gifts for our team and ongoing invitations for our local heroes to attend upcoming Military Night games. 🏈

The best part? Mia got a huge surprise right at our front door when she was greeted by Phil Clark—a former Chicago Bears player, military veteran, and one of our wonderful HQ volunteers!

We had an absolute blast connecting, talking football, and honoring our veteran community. The only thing she didn't give us? Any insider info on the big question.. Indiana vs Illinois!

The Landing Zone provides veterans with a welcoming place to connect, access resources, receive support, and build community with fellow veterans. Thanks to partners like the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County, we can continue expanding these services and ensuring veterans have a place to turn when they need assistance.

100+ Miles. 6 Days. One Mission: Supporting Our Veterans.
We are thrilled to announce the Paddle for Hope: Fox River Expedition! From July 25th to July 30th, veteran Sean Horne will take on a grueling solo kayak journey down the Fox River to raise awareness and critical funds for Veterans Path to Hope.

Sean will be paddling a Dagger Stratos 145 kayak, completely self-sustained and carrying all his own expedition gear. He will navigate changing river conditions and physically portage around multiple dams to complete this incredible personal challenge for a greater purpose.

July 25 (Day 1): Bald K**b Public Access (Pistakee Lake) to Algonquin Dam
July 26 (Day 2): Algonquin Dam to St. Charles Dam
July 27 (Day 3): St. Charles Dam to Montgomery
July 28 (Day 4): Montgomery to Yorkville
July 29 (Day 5): Yorkville to Sheridan
July 30 (Day 6): Sheridan to Ottawa (Fox River/Illinois River Confluence)

Shoutout to our Chicago Team!
While many people know Veterans Path to Hope for the work we do in Lake and McHenry Counties, we also have an incredible team serving veterans every day in Chicago out of our Hyde Park office.

From connecting veterans with housing and employment resources to helping them navigate challenges and access the support they've earned, our Chicago team is out in the community making a difference one veteran at a time.

Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to serving those who served is changing lives every single day. Whether they're meeting veterans where they are, helping them overcome barriers, or celebrating their successes, this team embodies what Veterans Path to Hope is all about.
