Last night, one very determined black bear decided to stop by the Sheriff’s Office for an unauthorized midnight snack.

Our office bird feeder was discovered “under attack” after the suspect allegedly knocked it over, consumed a large quantity of bird seed, and left the scene without paying for damages. Deputies reviewed surveillance footage and quickly identified the culprit as a large furry repeat offender known to frequent the area after dark.

Fortunately, no deputies, birds, or bears were injured during the incident — although several local birds are reportedly upset about losing breakfast privileges this morning.

As bear activity continues to increase across Northern Michigan, residents are reminded to secure bird feeders, garbage, and other food sources that may attract wildlife. Bears have an incredible sense of smell and will gladly take advantage of an easy meal… even at the Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect remains at large and is considered extremely hungry.

🎥 Check out the video below of the late-night feeder takedown.
