Heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday and Friday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur move into the state. Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, especially late Thursday into Friday morning.

A tropical disturbance has a 60% of forming into a tropical system in the next few days off the coast of Texas. While it is too early to determine wind or severe impacts from the system, heavy rainfall due to tropical moisture is expected across north and central Georgia by the end of the week.

UPDATED: Scattered showers and storms are expected to continue across north and central Georgia this afternoon and evening. A few storms could become severe with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph the primary threat. The main severe threat will be after 5pm.

📌 BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:
A Heat Advisory is in effect today for portions of Central and Eastern GA from noon to 8pm. Heat indices ("feels like" temps) will rise to 105°F across much of the advisory area by this afternoon.

🌡️ WHAT:
Heat indices of up to 105°F. Wet Bult Globe Temperature values approach 90°F. Actual temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s, with a few places in east central GA near 100°F.

🗺️ WHERE & WHEN:
Portions of Central and East Georgia from noon to 8pm.

🥵 IMPACTS:
Heat impacts to local populations, especially those vulnerable to heat symptoms or lacking cooler shelter.

🌡️ High heat index values in the upper 90s to low 100s each afternoon through the weekend.
Isolated afternoon storms through Friday. A few may be severe across far North GA on Friday.

⛈️ Rain and thunderstorm chances ramp up over the weekend through early next week with potential severe thunderstorm and flash flooding threats at times..

There is an increased risk of flash flooding across North Georgia on Monday due to widespread and slow/training moving showers and thunderstorms. High rainfall rates 2-3+ inches per hour may also contribute to flooding.

Scattered showers and storms will develop in the area through the evening. A few storms across Central GA could become strong to severe with damaging winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rain.

Showers and thunderstorms will begin to spread back across the area today through Saturday. Total likely rainfall amounts across the area will be about 1 inch however higher amounts of 2"+ are possible in isolated areas where thunderstorms stall.
