American Legion Post 86 Gray, Maine American Legion Post 86 dedicated to honoring and preserving our veteran's memory and their families.

The Gray American Legion Post 86 was chartered in 1921 and serves as a safe haven for veterans and their families. Post 86 is a sponsor of Scouting, our local food pantries, we supply numerous scholarships to local youth, send multiple students to DIRIGO STATE, and continue to serve our veterans and community.

Congratulations to Post 86's very own Tommy Somerville!! As of tonight, Tommy was appointed by Commander McKenzie and approved by the DEC to fulfill the role as State Historian for the Department of Maine.

Tommy has been a member of The American Legion for 16 years and Gray Post 86 has been his home Post for all of those years. He has served as the Post Adjutant, Post Service Officer and for 2025-2026 he serves as the Finance Officer and Historian. Tommy completed the Post Service Officer Seminar, the Basic Training Course and is a graduate of Maine Legion College.

Tommy grew up in Baltimore, Maryland attending Baltimore Public Schools enjoying history and math as favorite subjects before graduating in 1977. Tommy joined The United States Marine Corps in 1981 and during his tour of duty was stationed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Kittery, Maine for 1 year and knew then that Maine would be his new home after his Honorable Discharge in 1987.

Tommy resides in Gray, Maine where he raised his son Joshua (Yoshi) who is also a member of The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 86.
