Good afternoon, north & central GA partners.

We are continuing to monitor the risk for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon through this evening. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded a portion of the area to an ENHANCED Risk (level 3 of 5) with the primary threat being damaging winds.

Attached is a short video briefing that discusses in a bit more detail the potential for severe weather later today into this evening across the area. NOTE: the screen resolution is a bit off due to the conversion from Slack.

WHAT / PRIMARY THREATS:
• Scattered severe thunderstorms
• Any storm will be capable of producing damaging winds > 60 MPH, intense cloud-to-ground lightning, and very heavy rainfall. Some hail is also possible in the most severe storms. NOTE: localized thunderstorm wind gusts could approach 80 MPH given the atmospheric conditions.

WHERE & WHEN:
• Between 4PM and Midnight for all of north & central Georgia -- the better chance for severe will exist across areas along and east of I-75.
• It is difficult to pinpoint with confidence exactly what areas will get hit (and when) given the relative "unorganized" storm environment. We do believe that much of the action will originate over parts of North Carolina & up-state South Carolina with these storms moving southwest into parts of northeast and east-central GA by early this evening. Additional widely scattered storms are possible in other areas of the state (outside of this area).

IMPACTS:
• Damaging winds could take down trees and powerlines. Some structural damage is possible depending on the severity of the winds.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE:
• MEDIUM to HIGH that storms will occur (lower confidence on how severe storms will be along with the overall coverage of storms)

the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat

Good morning!

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across North and Central Georgia early this afternoon in response to daytime heating, before a potential complex of storms moves in during the late afternoon and evening hours. The core of the severe threat would be with the complex of storms. Similar to previous days, the primary anticipated hazard will be damaging wind gusts. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) remains in place across North and Central Georgia to account for this threat.
WHAT:
• Scattered strong to severe thunderstorm activity is expected to move into North and Central Georgia late this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds in the 40 to 60 MPH range are the primary concern, but some hail near quarter size or a brief spin up tornado also remain possible.

WHERE & WHEN:
• Strong to severe thunderstorms could occur anywhere across North and Central Georgia.
• The highest severe weather risk to occur between 3 PM and 11 PM.

UNCERTAINTIES:
• While the threat for severe weather remains low with any morning storms, this activity could act to stabilize the atmosphere and hinder the severe threat later in the day.
• The form that storms take remains less certain (i.e. an organized complex of storms or unorganized scattered storms).

FORECAST CONFIDENCE:
• Moderate

Good afternoon!

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:

(NEW): Portions of west-central Georgia have now been included in an Enhanced Risk area (Level 3 out of 5) for Saturday afternoon.

The risk of strong to severe thunderstorms will persist this weekend across North and Central Georgia. The primary severe weather threat on Saturday is expected after 4 PM over parts of western and central Georgia. This is where a complex of storms could develop resulting in a threat for damaging straight-line winds. The biggest change in the forecast (the upgrade to and Enhanced Risk in west-central Georgia) was made to account for this threat. The severe weather risk will continue in the region on Sunday, with the highest severe weather risk expected in central Georgia.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING:

What: A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will move from Alabama into of western Georgia. The primary threat will be damaging winds in the 50 to 70 mph range. A brief tornadic spin up or burst of hail up to the size of quarters are also possible. Isolated strong to severe storms may develop ahead of this line due to diurnal heating.

When: Timing for the greatest severe threat will be from 4 PM to 10 PM.

Where: Severe threat is greatest across portions of west-central Georgia (from Rome south to Columbus then over to Macon). Isolated severe storm may develop outside of this area.

Uncertainties: The track of the strongest storms may waffle north or south depending on how the storms develop in Alabama.

Forecaster Confidence: Moderate

SUNDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING:

What: Widespread thunderstorm activity should develop across north and central Georgia on Sunday. Damaging winds in the 40 to 60 mph range are the main concern, but some hail near quarter size is possible.

When: The highest severe weather risk should occur between 2 PM and 10 PM.

Where: Isolated severe storms could occur anywhere in the state, but the risk will be greatest across central Georgia.

Uncertainties: Convection Saturday and early in the day on Monday may hinder or enhance the severe weather threat on Sunday.

Forecaster Confidence: Moderate

Actions:

Any outdoor activities should be on guard for lightning and severe weather, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

Monitor the weather closely especially in western Georgia Saturday evening.

Be mindful of frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall with any thunderstorms that form.

Good Wednesday morning!

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:
There is a conditional risk for severe storms across parts of north Georgia late Friday into early Saturday. By conditional, we mean that there is a lot of forecast uncertainty at this time. Whether or not there are severe storms here in Georgia will depend on the evolution of a complex of storms upstream, over the Mid-South and Ohio River Valley. Expect additional emails over the coming days.

WHAT & WHERE:
• A complex of storms is expected to progress east-northeast across the Mid-South and Ohio River Valley during the day Friday.
• The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has introduced a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) across parts of north Georgia (including metro Atlanta) as severe storms may develop ahead of/associated with this complex.
• The remainder of north Georgia and much of central Georgia are under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms.

WHEN:
• The timing of potential severe storms is difficult to pin down at this time, but in general, forecast models suggest a time window of around 8 PM Friday to around 8 AM Saturday.

IMPACTS:
• At this time, the main concern with any severe storms would be damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters (1 inch in diameter).

FORECAST CONFIDENCE:
• LOW. The next 24-36 hours should bring more clarity on the forecast as models narrow in on some reasonable solutions.
