Ten years ago, Alpine Power Plant began serving cooperative members across our region—and the decisions made then continue to make a difference today.

As Alpine celebrates its 10th anniversary, Cherryland Electric Cooperative CEO Rachel Johnson and Wolverine Power Cooperative President & CEO Eric Baker reflect on how the plant came to be and the important role it continues to play in supporting reliable, affordable power for our members.

There’s something pretty incredible about watching Mother Nature put on a show. 🌦️🌈⛈️

Our next photo contest theme is Weather Wonders, and we want to see the unforgettable weather moments you’ve captured! From colorful sunsets and dramatic storm clouds to rainbows, lightning, fog, fresh snowfall, and everything in between, show us the weather that made you stop and grab your camera. Submit your best shot and vote for your favorites by October 25th!

You can enter the contest and vote at cherrylandelectric.coop/photo-contest. Enter your photo, cast your vote, and encourage others to vote for you, too! The photo with the most votes will appear in an upcoming issue of Michigan Country Lines, along with some of our other favorite entries. All photos printed in the magazine will also be entered into a drawing to win a credit of up to $200 on their December 2026 electric bill.

While we are closed and hanging up our hard hats for today, we wanted to remind you that we will be returning to our traditional office hours tomorrow opening at 7:30am.

And remember even when our office is closed you can report an outage by texting OUT to 800-442-8616, logging into SmartHub, or calling us at 231-486-9200. Our crews will grab their hats and head right over.

This week we sent a 9,000-pound transformer over to the new Amazon facility on Chums, helping load them with an additional 1 MW of capacity! ⚡️

Big thanks to TC Crane for helping us get this monster where it needed to go. 💪

And hey, we even got a pretty sweet sunrise and a partial transformer eclipse out of the deal. 🌅😎

Big congratulations to Cherryland’s own Courtney Doyle on being named one of Traverse City Business News’ 40Under40! 🎉

Now celebrating its 20th annual class, 40Under40 recognizes young leaders whose professional achievements, community involvement, and leadership are helping shape the future of Northern Michigan. Courtney was selected from more than 100 nominees for the impact she continues to make through her work and in our community.

As Cherryland’s Communications and Member Relations Manager, Courtney plays a major role in how we connect with and serve our members every day. Her leadership, creativity, and commitment to our cooperative and the communities we serve are easy to see—and we couldn’t be prouder to have her on our team.
