Tomorrow is the election to renew the mileage for the Grass Lake Fire Department. Without this renewal, Grass Lake will not have a fire department. Our firefighters do more than put out fires, they are the first responders for heart attacks, injuries - all medical and accident related 911 calls.

Today is the day for our drive through event from 5-7pm and your chance to grab yourself a bag of our famous Carmel corn!

We ask that you ENTER the station off of Sarossy Lk Rd, and drive towards the front of the building and then EXIT onto Michigan Ave.

Robert James "Jim" Zenz

Jim gained his angel wings on September 10, 2021, with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born into this world on November 11, 1959. Jim is preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Nancy Zenz; and his mother-in-law, Marjorie Clark. Jim is survived by his wife, Cathy; his children, Jacob and Breann Zenz, Megan and Jimmy Videto; his grandchildren, Samantha and Jack Zenz and Madilyn, Ella and James Videto. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard and Thomas Zenz; father-in-law, James Clark; brother and sister-in-laws, Carol and Denny Huehl, Cindy and Chris Payne, Larry and Michelle Clark; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Jim was a farmer, mechanic, firefighter, husband, father, and his most favorite role was Papa. Jim spent 11 years working at Jiffy Milling Company. His next major role was the Head Transportation Mechanic for 23 years at Chelsea Community Schools. Jim was also a member of the Grass Lake Fire Department for 27 years where he was captain and assistant chief. He enjoyed volunteering on the Chelsea Community Fair Board for 30+ years.

Jim will be remembered by his family most for his smile and generous “pay it forward” attitude. He always put his family first by making sure all of us left behind will be taken care of. His ability to walk into a crowded room of people and become friends with everyone is something we will always cherish. We will always remember his love for John Deere tractors, both big and small, and the many treasures he has found along the way.

A visitation for Jim will be held Monday, September 13th from 2-8 pm at Sherwood Funeral Home, Grass Lake. His Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, September 14th at 12:00 pm at Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Grass Lake Fire Department, Grass Lake Relay for Life, or Careline Hospice.
