Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming descendants of the Realy family to the Waterloo Farm Museum. During their visit, they generously donated a decanter set that once belonged to the Realy family and was purchased at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition (Chicago World’s Fair).

The set is engraved with the name Kate Realy, making it a meaningful addition to the museum’s collection and a special connection to the family who once called this property home before it became the Waterloo Farm Museum.

Thank you for entrusting us with this precious family heirloom. We are honored to preserve and share it with future generations.

You're invited! Bring your friends and family to Blacksmith Blacksmiths and Soldiers Weekend 2026 and celebrate Michigan history and craftsmanship at our historic farmstead. This unique combo event features our largest gathering of blacksmith demonstrators along with living history interpreters sharing the details of Civil War soldier experiences.

Other craft demonstrations and living history representations will be occurring simultaneously. Tours of the historic farmhouse will be available. Enjoy hearty concessions, shop unique vendors, try hands on activies, and listen to musicians throughout the day.

The Waterloo Area Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of the Waterloo area by operating the Waterloo Farm Museum and Dewey School Museum. We offer opportunities for volunteers to get involved in our projects and events, helping to keep our community's heritage....

Windmill Restoration Update!

We’re excited to share that the fan blades have been fully painted and are looking fantastic! This is a big visual milestone in the restoration of our historic windmill.

Next up: tower restoration begins in February. This phase will focus on stabilizing and preserving the structure so it can stand tall for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far — your generosity and encouragement are what keep this work moving forward. More updates coming soon!
