Updated-**BURN BAN IN EFFECT 2/17-TBD**
Alright everybody.. we know it’s been a long, brutal winter. Cold, gray, cabin fever at DEFCON 1. Now the sun peeks out and suddenly everyone’s ready to clean up the yard, light a match, and send it like we’re hosting the Midwest edition of Burning Man.
Before you do.. pump the brakes. 🛑
Right now, we’re strongly ADVISING against any type of open burning. That means brush piles, open land burning, fence rows, tree rows, or basically anything that isn’t locked down and contained in a burn barrel, fire pit, or grill/smoker. And if you’re enjoying a recreational fire, make sure it’s completely extinguished when you’re done .. cold, dead, and done.
Here’s the deal.. we’ve got windy conditions, bone dry vegetation, and low humidity. That combo turns a “quick burn” into a runaway fire real fast. Fires spread hard, threaten homes, put neighbors at risk, and stretch fire department resources when we’d rather be ready for true emergencies like cats in trees.
Right now, there is NOT a burn ban in effect. If Mother Nature decides to crank things up even more, that call will be made at the district level, and we’ll let everyone know immediately.
So let’s keep it smart, keep it safe, and keep the flames where they belong… In a Olympic cauldron 🔥
Thanks for helping us look out for the whole community. 👊
