Beginning Monday morning (3/30) at 7am there will be road shoulder work on Rt 57 in the gorge. A barricaded workzone will be set up in the east bound lane and temporary traffic signals will control alternating traffic in the westbound lane. There will be warning signs in place to warn motorists of the hazard. Expect minor traffic delays due to alternating traffic, as well as the possibility of additional periodic delays during times of increased hazards from hammering operations, or heavy equipment moving in and out of the workzone. A detail officer will be on site during working hours, while the temporary traffic signals remain for the duration of the project which is expected to be completed by the end of the week. Please allow extra time to pass through the area. We appreciate your patience as we work to remove this hazard.

Please note that blowing, plowing, or otherwise depositing snow on town roads is prohibited!
Those that need to see this probably won’t, so please spread the word and tell your contractor! Depositing snow on town roads creates a hazard that can catch motorists off guard. If an accident results you could be held liable for contributing, and it’s usually pretty obvious where the snow came from.
Also, to a lesser degree, it is disrespectful to our plow operators who finish working 20 or more non-stop hours to get roads safe and back to black. To then drive home and see this everywhere is discouraging.

This acknowledgment is a little overdue (we’ve been a little busy 🤣).. but all of us at the DPW would like to thank the community for their words of gratitude and support throughout this tough winter. We had plenty of good food, snacks, and drinks dropped off at the garage for the last storm. It certainly helps us cope with the long hours away from home, family, and a hot meal. We appreciate it very much. Not only have we fought the weather but sickness has made its way through the department and our already small crew took another hit when we least needed it.
We appreciate your continued patience as we slowly continue widening roads and cleaning up intersections to improve visibility.
Thank you again for your support.

The impending winter storm is expected to require 45 hours or more of continual Highway Department operations. The current Granville workforce is 4 full-time employees with 2 part-time helpers for winter storms. Cold temps, sustained snowfall rates of 1+ inches per hour, and blowing snow will make it impossible to keep roads clear throughout the storm. Travel will be difficult for motorists with improperly equipped vehicles and should be limited to emergencies only.
If you are trying to get home and the road is impassable, please call the DPW (357-8585 x6) and we will do our best to get a unit to the area.
We do not recommend using social media to contact us. Please call to report any problems, and as always call 911 for emergencies.

Please use caution on the roads this morning. Temperatures are not rising as forecasted and the road surfaces are very cold. Crews have been treating roads nonstop since 6 PM last night, but icy conditions still exist, especially on gravel surface roads.
We strongly suggest, avoiding gravel roads for at least the next few hours.
