National Police K9 Day!

Today we recognize the incredible K9s who serve alongside law enforcement officers across the country and we’re especially proud to celebrate our own K9 team here at the Granville Police Department.

Cadillac, our 6.5-year-old German Shepherd partnered with LT. Huyett, and Rose, our 5-year-old Bloodhound partnered with PFC Kolb, are an important part of our department and our community. Their training, instincts, and dedication provide capabilities that simply can’t be replicated by technology or equipment.

This weekend and today, several members of the Granville Police Department, including current and former K9 handlers and their families, participated in the K9s United Memorial Run. While the run honors K9s who have made the ultimate sacrifice, it was also a great opportunity for our department family to come together and celebrate the incredible bond between K-9s, their handlers, and the communities they serve.

We’re proud of Cadillac, Rose, and all of the K9s who put their paws on the ground every day to help keep people safe.

Found Phone!

A phone was located at our city park and turned into the main office at 1245 Main Street. Attached are the photographs of the phone. If you are the owner or know the owner, please visit our main office to claim it or call our office. Be prepared to described the attached keychains/lanyards or know the password to pick up the device.

School is back!

As students return to school across Monongalia County Tuesday, please slow down, pay attention, and expect increased traffic around schools and school bus stops.

Most importantly, STOP for school buses when their red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended while children are loading or unloading.

Passing a stopped school bus can result in a $500–$1,000 fine, up to 6 months in jail, or both. Under certain aggravated circumstances, penalties can increase to $1,500–$3,000 and mandatory jail time.

A few seconds of patience could save a child’s life.

Slow down. Stop for the bus. Watch for our kids.

Today, the Granville Police Department proudly announced the promotion of Deputy Chief Brian Hill to Chief of Police.

Chief Hill has been a faithful member of the Granville Police Department since May 2007, dedicating nearly two decades of service to the Town of Granville and the community. Chief Hill was sworn in before Mayor Patricia Lewis, members of Granville City Council, and family and friends. The vast majority Granville Police Department’s officers were present to support Chief Hill and to demonstrate to the Mayor and City Council the confidence, trust, and support our officers have in his ability to lead the Granville Police Department.

Before the swearing-in, Mayor Lewis shared these words regarding Chief Hill and his nearly 20 years of service which we feel perfectly captures the impact he has had on the town and department:

“You've been with the town now for nearly 20 years. During that time, you walked alongside us through significant growth and change, quietly and consistently helping our police department evolve from a single police officer to a department of 15 dedicated professionals.

As Deputy Chief, you've helped lead our police department with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. You've always made the safety of our employees, our residents, and the thousands of visitors who come through Granville and University Town Center one of your highest priorities.

I have every confidence that you'll continue to lead the department in the right direction, building on the strong foundation that you helped create, and guiding our officers with the same dedication and integrity that you yourself have demonstrated throughout your career with us.

And with that, it's my great honor and privilege to proudly introduce you as the newly appointed Chief of Police.”

Chief Hill has been part of Granville's growth every step of the way. His experience, dedication, and commitment to the community will now continue in his new role as Chief of Police.

A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS!!CONGRATULATIONS, CHIEF CORKREAN!

After years of dedicated service to the Town of Granville and the Granville Police Department, we are proud to announce the retirement of Chief Joseph “Corky” Corkrean.

Chief Corkrean has served as Chief of Police from 2010 to 2026, dedicating more than 15 years to leading our department and serving the Granville community.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Corkrean has helped shape the Granville Police Department into the agency it is today. His leadership, commitment to his officers, and dedication to the safety and well being of our community have left a lasting mark on this department.

Chief Corkrean has personally hired many of the officers currently serving within our ranks, helping to build not just a department, but a family. He has been a constant example of what it means to be a leader and a mentor by guiding, teaching, and supporting those who have had the privilege to serve under him. More importantly, to us, he has been a consistently great friend, someone we could always count on both in and out of uniform.

As he closes this chapter in law enforcement, we are excited to share that Chief Corkrean will be beginning a new career as a professor at Fairmont State University, where he will continue to shape and inspire future generations in the field of law enforcement through education and leadership.

Retirement is certainly well deserved, but it is never easy to say goodbye to someone who has given so much of himself to the badge, his officers, and the community he served.

Chief.. Thank you for your leadership, your friendship, your countless hours of service, and everything you have done for the Granville Police Department.

From all of us at GPD, congratulations on your retirement. We hope this next chapter brings you plenty of time to relax, enjoy life, and maybe, for once, answer to nobody but yourself.

Enjoy retirement. You’ve earned it.

2010–2026 | Chief Corkrean

Cadillac and LT. Huyett were invited to perform a K9 demonstration for a great group of children attending the Kids Fitness Camp hosted by Abandoned Fitness.

We want to thank owner Shawnee Weber for the opportunity to speak about police K9s, their important role in law enforcement, and the work they do to keep our community safe. We'd also like to thank all of the kids for being such a fantastic audience and asking great questions!

Finally, a huge thank you to Sheila J Photography for capturing some of the best photos we've ever had of K9 Cadillac. We truly appreciate your talent and generosity!
