The latest National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook indicates an increased potential for wildfire activity across parts of the West from June through September.

As of May 31, more than 2.4 million acres have burned nationwide—well above the 10-year average.

Help prevent wildfires:
- Avoid target shooting near dry grass or vegetation.
- Never park a vehicle on dry grass—hot exhaust systems can start fires.
- Properly extinguish campfires and ensure they are cold to the touch before leaving.
- Secure trailer safety chains to prevent sparks on roadways.
- Avoid using equipment that creates sparks during hot, dry, and windy conditions.
- Dispose of ci******es responsibly—never toss them from a vehicle.

- Create an emergency plan
- Prepare your home and defensible space
- Stay informed about local fire conditions

Learn more about wildfire preparedness at http://Ready.gov/wildfires. or https://utahlivingwithfire.org/

Remember: Areas shown in red on wildfire outlook maps indicate above-normal potential for significant wildland fires, while white areas indicate normal seasonal fire potential.

Together, we can reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires and help protect our community.

Stay prepared. Stay informed. Stay safe.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighters Sawyer Larson, Chris Roberts, Garrett Behunin(not pictured) on successfully completing the 2026 Tooele County Firefighter Recruit Academy!

Over the past six months, these dedicated individuals have committed countless hours, evenings, and Saturdays to rigorous training, classroom instruction, and hands-on exercises to prepare for the demands of the fire service.

Through the academy, they have earned their Utah Fire and Rescue Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to serve and protect our community safely and effectively.

Their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to serving our community have paid off, and we are proud to welcome them as graduates of the academy.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the Tooele Army Depot Fire Department for hosting this year’s academy and providing an outstanding training environment for the recruits. Your support and commitment to developing the next generation of firefighters is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your dedication to the citizens of Grantsville City and for your commitment to excellence in the fire service

Please join us in welcoming our newest Junior Recruits from Willow Elementary School, Grantsville Elementary School, and Twenty Wells Elementary!

Over the past two days, we had the opportunity to take part in Field Day activities with these amazing students. The kids put their firefighter skills to the test by completing relay races that included donning turnout gear, pulling hose lines, and rescuing a downed victim — who weighed two to three times more than some of the students themselves!

These students showed determination, teamwork, and plenty of grit while tackling each challenge. We truly look forward to this event every year and love being part of such a fun and memorable day for these students.

Thank you to the Tooele County School District staff, and students for letting us join in on the excitement!
