Our 8th grade students attended an incredible opportunity to step back in time at a Civil War reenactment today! 🇺🇸

Throughout the day, students explored what life was like during the Civil War era, learning about the weaponry used, the limited medical technology available, and the challenges faced by doctors and soldiers alike. They also read real soldier letters sent from military camps, giving them a powerful glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of those who lived through this time.

Students gained a deeper understanding of daily life for soldiers, as well as the important contributions made by everyone involved in the war; including women who enlisted and broke laws at the time against girls serving in the military, to show their patriotism and fight for their country. Hands-on learning experience that truly brought history to life! Way to go Tigers! 🧡🖤

After 5 months of dedicated reading and preparation, these amazing students proudly represented our school at the Oregon Battle of the Books competition! They faced tough, highly competitive teams from Lorna Byrne MS and Fleming MS, and their hard work truly paid off.

🏆 The LSMS Tigers are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! 🏆

They’re heading to Regionals on March 7th, and we couldn’t be prouder!

To top it off, each Tiger earned a $25 gift certificate to Oregon Books—a well-deserved reward for their commitment and love of reading.

Congratulations to our amazing readers—your grit, teamwork, and determination truly showed! 🧡🖤📖 Special thanks to Mrs. DeForest and Mrs. Williams for aiding our Tigers in their preparation and their continued support.

Our Tigers have been busy exploring the natural world right here on campus! Students researched local plant species found around the track and field, identified each organism, and created informative signs to share their learning. The result? A brand-new nature walking trail that highlights the biodiversity of our school grounds! 🌲🌳🌱

Today, students proudly gave their first guided tours of the trail to their peers and members of our staff – building confidence, practicing communication skills, and showcasing their hard work. We’re so proud of their curiosity, teamwork, and dedication to learning beyond the classroom. 👏🏼

This morning’s Friday professional development looked a little different, and that was the point! Mr. Higgins, Principal here at LSMS, led an engaging PD session for our teaching staff that focused on learning, perseverance, and collaboration.

Teachers rolled up their sleeves as Mr. Higgins taught them how to tie an Egg Loop Snell knot, commonly used in salmon fishing, using the experience as a powerful metaphor for teaching and learning. 🎣 Staff reflected on new ways to engage students at different ability levels, the importance of using students as experts to support their peers, and how seeking help from colleagues can strengthen learning for everyone.

A great reminder that whether you’re a student or an adult learner, growth happens when we learn together, support one another, and keep trying–even when it’s tricky the first time! 🧡🖤

To start off our winter break, our school community showed what it means to take care of one another. 🧡🖤

Our amazing staff members worked together to prepare, organize, and deliver food care packages to support families in need over the break. From planning and packing to making sure everything was ready for delivery, their teamwork made a big difference.

We’re also proud of our Leadership students, who helped wrap the delivery boxes and added a little extra festive cheer to each one. 🎁🌲☃️

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and to our families for being such an important part of our school community. Special thanks to our school counselor Mr. David Rude for organizing the entire thing. Together, we can make a difference!
