Progress and the positive development are under attack again in this Grants Pass!
It just takes a few, and they're at it again. The Jan 3rd Daily Courier front page story is about Rob Pell and Jeff Tompkins exaggerations about a parking problem downtown. There is no parking problem in downtown Grants Pass just parking issues, that can be resolved if given a chance.
They have bullied people into signing a petition based on a "parking crisis". This ploy is part of their strategy to stop the downtown plaza concept. The goal of the petition was under a false pretense. They knew the city was already funded and was going to have a parking study. They just want to make themselves relevant in the discussion of the Plaza. Over the past decade, recalled councilor Rob Pell is on the record for being against anything that is positive for the downtown. The Heritage Square concept may prove to not be a good thing for the city, but let's give it a fair shake. The sky is not falling as these two have proclaimed. Change is scary for some but being open to new ideas brings about great things.
The plaza is about building and strengthening the community and it has proven that over the past three years. The city council needs give it a fair chance and evaluation.
What kind of city do we what? Are we going to stand by and let a few loud bullies decide our future? How about a balanced and fair shake at new concepts for the city? What is your definition of a downtown and what should take place in it? How do you feel about parking in our downtown? It is time for everyone to get involved. Let's start a positive dialog. - Jon Bowen
