Grant Police Department Responds to Threat Call at Grant High School

Grant, Michigan — The Grant Police Department responded today to a report of a threat at Grant High School.

At approximately 11:00am, the High School received a call reporting two individuals with AR-15-style rifles, as well as pipe bombs, allegedly enroute to the school. Local law enforcement officers immediately responded and secured the High School. As a precautionary measure, officers also secured the Grant Primary Center, Grant Elementary School, and Grant Middle School.

Law enforcement then conducted coordinated searches of each school building to ensure they were safe. No threats were located during the searches.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of students, staff, families, and the community while these safety measures were carried out. An investigation into the origin of the call is ongoing.

The Grant Police Department was assisted by the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office, White Cloud Police Department, Michigan State Police, Ashland-Grant Fire Department, Life EMS, and Newaygo County Central Dispatch.

Additional updates will be provided as appropriate.

Donald "Don" Morsaw Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Ray Morsaw, a beloved lifelong resident of White Cloud, Michigan, who departed this world on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at the age of 57. Don was born on February 19th, 1968, and his life was one marked with service, love, and deep commitment to his family and community.

Don leaves behind his cherished wife, Beth Morsaw, and his loving children; Derrick (Jessica) Morsaw, and their child, Parker, Kodiak Morsaw, and his children, Addilynn (affectionately known as Peanut), Evalynn, Elizabeth, Raylynn, Easton, and Ellyana Keyser and her child, Adelyn. Don is also survived by his siblings, Ronald (Sandy) Morsaw and Melinda Walter, and his mother; Sandie Hoffman, father, Amos Gobble Jr, who shared in the joys and challenges of life with him. Don was preceded in death by his first spouse, Lavonne Iris Morsaw, and mother of his two sons, with whom he shared part of his journey.

A true American patriot, Don served in the Navy, a testament to his dedication to his country. His commitment to service extended into his professional life as well, having spent 7 years protecting the community as a Police Officer with the Grant Police Department. Before that, he served with distinction in various roles, including his work with the Newaygo County Sherriff's Department on their Dive Team, Reserve Deputy, and Sherriff's Deputy. Don also was a firefighter and EMT with the Big Prairie Fire Department. Don was always eager to lend a hand where it was needed most.

An individual of many interests, Don had a lifelong passion for metal fabrication and hunting. Above all, his life was driven by a profound belief in helping others and a strong faith that guided his spirit and was a proud and devoted grandfather. As we say goodbye to Don, we hold near and dear the memories of love, laughter, and kindness he shared with us all. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Don will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Don's life and legacy on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 2pm at Harvest Fremont. The Morsaw family will receive friends an hour before the service. With respect to Don's wishes, a private burial will take place with immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Tunnel of Towers Foundation. Services have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud.

It is with deep sadness that we share the off-duty passing of Officer Don Morsaw.

Officer Morsaw joined the Grant Police Department in 2018 and served our community with dedication, integrity, and compassion. Over the past seven years, he became a trusted colleague and a respected presence in our community, always committed to keeping others safe.

We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Morsaw's family, friends, and colleagues. We ask the community to keep them in your thoughts and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Happy National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day!

We're thankful for School Resource Officers everywhere, but especially for Officer Ledezma and Detective Sergeant Israel. The long hours and hard work that they put into the job do not go unnoticed.

If you see these guys on Monday, make sure to give them a high-five or fist bump!

If you received a bumper sticker in your stocking, before placing it on your vehicle, ask yourself:

What do the stickers tell everyone else? Could the information make me a victim of a scam?
