Today was one for the books—a great day with an incredible group of friends celebrating Ken’s birthday (60 trips around the sun). This officially goes down as the

First Annual Horseshoe Bay “Kewl Kids” Crawfish Boil

The crawfish crew—Jim, Hal, Doug, and yours truly as the self-appointed "Da’ Crawfish Master" — came ready to throw down. And throw down we did: 150 lbs of crawfish, plus andouille sausage, corn, potatoes, onions, and mushrooms. It all started with purging the mudbugs, then into the hot tub of spices—rolling, bubbling, and filling the air with that nose-tingling Cajun aroma. Once those bugs turned bright red, it was game on.

We dumped the boil out across the table, but not before a proper demonstration—because eating crawfish is an art. Pinch, twist, pull… tails for the meat, heads for the bold. Suck the head if you’ve got the nerve—it’s where the flavor lives. Once you get the hang of it, there’s no turning back.

We had over 60 people show up, and nobody went hungry. For those not quite ready for crawfish combat, Ken had a full brisket smoking, along with Cajun dirty rice, red beans and rice, and a dessert spread that would make W***y Wonka raise an eyebrow.

Folks gathered, laughed, pulled up chairs to the table, and ate until they couldn’t anymore… and then somehow kept going. A few diehards even stuck around to finish off what was left—because leaving crawfish behind just isn’t right.

It was one of those days—great food, great people, and a whole lot of laughter.

Here’s to Ken, and here’s to the "Horseshoe Bay Kewl Kids", setting the bar high for year one.

It was a B E A utiful day!
