The Granite Shoals Police Department is comprised of 15 sworn officers and 2 civilian employees at full staffing. We provide law enforcement to residents of the city and those visiting the area as our community sits on the north shores of Lake LBJ. The Granite Shoals Police Department selects only high-quality individuals to become Police Officers. Department Overview
The Granite Shoals Police Department is made up of 15 sworn officers who are committed to community policing with a focus on keeping our residents safe. The core values of the department are Service, Accountability, Fairness, and Ethics.
Take Home Vehicle
After successfully completing field training, an officer is assigned a fully equipped police vehicle. All officers living within 30 miles of Granite Shoals city limits are authorized to take their police vehicle to their place of residence. (Subject to budget considerations
and Chief approval)
Equipment/Uniform
Officers are equipped with a full uniform including the choice of an external carrier vest, G***k 17 MOS, AR 15, Taser 7, AXON Body 3, and Fleet Cam for the new Ford SUV’s.
Police Officer Education and Certification Pay
Officers receive certificate pay.
Police officers will receive TCOLE certification pay at the following rates:
• Intermediate Peace Officer Certification: $50 per month. ($600.00 annually)
• Advanced Peace Officer Certification: $100 per month. ($1,200.00 annually)
• Master Peace Officer Certification: $200 per month. ($2,400.00 annually)
Retirement Plan
The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System
(TMRS). Participation is mandatory for employees. 7% of your gross pay will be deducted from each paycheck and deposited into your member/retirement account. The City will match your contribution 2:1 and vesting is at the completion of 5 years of service.
You will be eligible for retirement benefits at any age after 20 years of service or at age 60 with 5 years of service. To receive the City’s contribution, you must be eligible for retirement.
Holidays
The City observes thirteen paid holidays per year. Police officers receive an additional “Personal Holiday” each year.
Pay scale
Police Officer pay scale:
Minimum of $54,866.50 (does not include certificate pay) to a currently budgeted
Maximum of $61,259.64 (does not include certificate pay)
Age Requirements
At least 21 years of age to be appointed.
Education Requirements
Basic requirements as prescribed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
Residency
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must be a permanent resident in the State of Texas prior to becoming appointed as an officer.
Physical Condition
Must be able to perform the duties as described in the job description, which can be obtained from the police department.
Licenses
Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Must be currently licensed with TCOLE as a Peace Officer or be eligible for a license prior to being appointed.
