These vehicles are a wonderful welcome, however, it's budget season again and we encourage you to speak your mind to your elected officials about the need for more. The Chief has identified four more vehicles that are falling apart or mechanically well beyond their service life that need to be replaced this year and is budgeting as such.

The members of the GSLEOA would love to have our residents let their support be known to the elected members of the council as the new budget comes together to allow for vehicle improvement, in addition, to benefit and pay increases to attempt to catch up with not only the market but inflation.

Four new vehicles were picked up by the Granite Shoals Police Department on July 5...

Resident and former Granite Shoals City Council Member Mark Morren will be hosting a public City Council Candidate Forum at the Granite Shoals Fire Rescue Station on FM 1431 on TUESDAY, May 3, 2022, at 6pm.

Mr. Morren advised all candidates are welcome and hopes for a successful forum where anyone that shows up in person may fill out an index card with a question will be able to have that question answered by the candidates.

This is NOT a City Sponsored event, however, is located in a public place. The City of Granite Shoals will be broadcasting via Facebook live on the City's page. No questions or comments will be able to be taken via Facebook. This service is being provided as the location is public and many have asked for the ability to view/listen if they cannot attend.

Mr. Morren encourages the public to attend in person to be able to hear the candidates answer their questions. There will be a box to drop questions in at the forum. The questions will be mixed up and then drawn out and each candidate will have an allotted time to respond to each question. Additionally, Mr. Morren advised each candidate will be able to have an allotted time at the end to speak on why each candidate may be the best choice for the council position.

Again, the City of Granite Shoals will be broadcasting this forum via the City's Facebook as a live event Tuesday, May 3rd, at 6pm. No questions or comments will be taken via the social media application unless it involves technical issues like sound or picture.

Citizens of Granite Shoals, there is one and only candidate forum prior to the City elections and it's TONIGHT at the Granite Shoals Fire Rescue station on FM 1431 from 6pm to 8pm. Come in person or listen on KBEY 103.9 FM or listen on the internet via KBEYFM.com.

There are three City Council positions up for election this May 7th. Come out to see what the candidates have to say.

There have been interesting comments on social media but no substantive conversations posted (that we've seen) about how to keep city staff (the ones on the ground doing the work). There have been plenty of posts about NO NEW TAXES. Sounds great. But until there is a stream of significant SALES TAX coming into the City, property tax and water is what this town is based on. We look forward to hearing substantive plans from candidates on their ideas to work through the issues facing the City.

City benefits and compensation are real issues for City staff on the ground doing the job every day; Police, Fire, Streets, and Utility.

The GSLEOA members looking forward to hearing what the candidates have to say about keeping pay competitive with surrounding communities, adding dependant health care coverage, and increasing retirement for those of us who not only work here but for future hires in an ever-increasingly small applicant pool for ALL City departments.

Specifically, we'd like to know what the candidate's position on the Granite Shoals Police Department building that was built in the 1970's, was never intended to be a police station and is now woefully aged and too small for the staff that has grown over the decades.

The GSLEOA has not chosen to endorse any candidate so far this year. Over the years the City Councils, Mayors, and City Managers have worked hard to keep the GSPD funded and able to complete the mission asked by the citizens of this great community. We don't like the idea of having to politicize ourselves however, talking points mean nothing without actual hard ideas with measurable timelines and goals.

The most control anyone has in politics over their lives is in local elections. Early voting starts Monday the 25th and Election Day is SATURDAY MAY 7th. No matter what your opinion, go vote. Make sure your voice is heard. It's what our Country was founded upon.
