Today is a very difficult day in our city. My heart goes out to the victims, their family, and the first responders.

City Officials have been in direct contact with the family and will be assisting them at 6pm tonight with a vigil to be held at the intersection of Pontoon Rd. and Wabash Ave. Pontoon Rd. will be closed for this vigil so please use an alternate route.

Please come together as a city and join us as we support this family in their time of need.

🚧 Madison Avenue Construction Update
Work is officially underway on the next phase of improvements along Madison Avenue!

Crews are currently working along the south side of Madison Avenue, moving from 23rd Street toward 27th Street. Once that portion is complete, work will shift to the north side and move back toward 23rd Street.

Improvements in this phase include:

• New and improved sidewalks and driveway entrances for better accessibility
• Curb and gutter replacement
• Storm sewer upgrades
• Traffic signal improvements
• Resurfacing of Madison Avenue

The project is being completed with a combination of federal, state and local grant funding. This is one piece of a larger effort to improve Madison Avenue across Granite City. We appreciate everyone’s patience as crews continue working to improve this important corridor!

Sept. 7 – Labor Day Parade and Picnic – Music, food, and refreshments Location: Parade lineup begins at 9:00 a.m. in downtown Granite City on State Street between Niedringhaus & 18th Streets and will go to Wilson Park for a picnic for Union Members and their families. Time: Parade starts at 10:00 a.m.

We’re in the home stretch! 🚧

The Granite City Street Department is working on the final roads of this summer’s paving schedule. O’Hare and Terminal will be finished up this week, bringing this summer’s total to 17 streets completed!

Thank you to everyone for your patience while crews have been out working, roads have been closed, and schedules have shifted along the way. We appreciate you giving our crews the time and space they need to get the job done safely.

Once the streets are wrapped up, the work isn’t over. Sidewalk improvements are up next!
