Harris Township elected officials committed to offer competitive compensation to our first responders (02.2025).
For calendar year 2026, we funded that compensation as a result of our past fiscal discipline.
After a year of diligent effort and creativity, we ensured it would continue by securing unanimous support for changes to our fire territory.
“We” includes Trustee Ken Lindsay and board members Karen Vargo, Chuck Sulok, and Bob Fox. Promises made. Promises kept.

Next steps include state final approval, assembling an experienced fire board, then optimizing operations and developing new approaches to keep costs down while improving service levels.
Stay tuned - there is more work to do.

'I’ve been taking my mom to the cemetery several times a year... today we were both so impressed with how it looks! The new fence and pillars are beautiful and the lawn service is really doing a nice job… all weedwacked and trimmed around all the gravestones. And the cement drive lined is so nice too. Thank you for spearheading all the improvements going on!!
Teena and Dorothy'

Note: Harris Township maintains two historic cemeteries - Harris Prairie and Salem. While not operating, they are an important part of our community.

Don't forget the township-sponsored history talk 5pm Thursday April 30th 2026 at the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library Harris Branch on Elm Road.
