This week is National Police Week. This was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to recognize law enforcement's bravery and sacrifice. You will note that Grandville Officers are wearing mourning bands this week, this is in remembrance and honor to those officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our communities.

The Grandville Police Department is made up of professional officers and leadership that take pride in the care and service they provide to the City of Grandville. We our proud to work alongside of them everyday for the betterment of our community.

This morning, the City of Walker lost their Fire Chief to an unexpected medical emergency. Chief Shoultz was a highly motivated and energetic Chief that deeply cared not only for his city, but also for his people. He brought energy and leadership to his department as well as the region. He thrived on the success of his people and those in the fire service. His leadership and friendship will be greatly missed.

Funeral details are still pending and will be announced when they are finalized.

Please keep our friends at the City of Walker and the Walker Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers.

Weather update 4/14/2026 11:38PM
Grandville, the National Weather Service has let the thunderstorm warning expire. We will continue to see rain throughout the night. We are still under the following weather warnings from NWS.

1. Tornado Watch- this requires only awareness on your part and the ability to receive notifications and have a shelter place ready. This expires at 4:00 am 4/15/2026.

2. Flood Watch- this is also just awareness. Look for flooded streets and rivers, do not drive through standing water or go around barricades. This is in effect until 2:00am Friday 4/17/2026.

04/15/2026

Grandville residents- the tornado sirens are currently going off as there is a tornado warning for SOUTHEAST Kent county, not Grandville. Please stay alert and look for more updates.

* Current technology does not allow for specific sirens to be turned on or off. It is an all or nothing throughout the county. Kent County is currently updating this technology and should be finished with the dispatch side in the next several months. The next phase will be up to each municipality to update the sirens. Once both dispatch and the sirens get upgraded, dispatch will be able to control specific sirens and only turn on the ones i. The affected areas, not the whole county.
More to come on this project.
