Today I stumbled upon a reminder, on 1/27/2017 I took on one of the biggest flips I had ever done at that time. It was an old farm house built in 1892, being that it was so old and I didn't have that much experience with big projects like this I decided to do this house with an investor client/friend Daniel. He was one of the first investors that I worked with regularly, I didn't really like working with investors at that time because of how draining it could be but Daniel was different. He was a great guy who cared deeply about his family, his work and providing a good house for the people who would receive them. He had a big heart and he wasn't afraid to give a guy a chance to prove himself...I don't remember exactly how we met but I think it was very random and he was cleaning out a house in the city and we ended up sparking up a conversation about real estate...over the years I worked with Daniel helping him buy and sell homes that he would renovate, we spent time together analyzing values, returns, eating lunch, talking about God, caring for others and so many other thing that you do as you just live life with others. I knew Daniel was a special guy, a gift in many ways but it hit a lot harder when I got a call to let me know he had died 8/4 of last year. When I think of Daniel I will think of many things but these two rise to the top, 1 Daniel wasn't afraid to give me a chance at working for him and once he saw who I was he trusted me entirely- this was a gift for me that I valued. The second thing I will never forget is his funeral...Daniel had the kind of funeral you could only hope and dream of...all his kids spoke about how amazing he was and how they felt like he was their best friend. Daniel loved his kids so well, teaching them so many skills and being there for them and it showed- even in his death he was teaching me how to be a better, father, husband and follower of Christ. I've been waiting for the words to honor Daniel Eerdmans and it looks like this flip that I was scared to take on by myself provided the opportunity to be reminded who Daniel was....the guy who was willing to step in and give a hand, to encourage and to enter a rough looking situation to make it a lot better when he was done...only to start all over and do it again with a smile on his face. What an example....thanks Daniel!
