Who Are We?
We are your neighbors. We serve rural communities and large cities. We advise corporations, nonprofits, and government agencies. We work in schools, hospitals, universities, and businesses. We are chief risk advisors for the communities, businesses, and organizations we serve—helping them prevent, mitigate, prepare for, and recover from disasters.

We always know who to call, we anticipate the needs, and we are never surprised by the phrase “This is unprecedented." We are ready.

Emergency managers work behind the scenes, making sure their community is ready if disaster strikes. Most of the time, their work is unseen. But, when they are needed, they are literal lifesavers.

This month, we are taking a little time to recognize them and the work they do to keep our communities safe! We’re kicking off a month-long effort to raise awareness about the critical role emergency management plays in keeping Minnesotans safe before, during and after disasters.

Take the first step today by learning who your local emergency manager is by visiting our directory at https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem/contact-hsem/hsem-rpc

Spring burning restrictions expanded this morning as warm, dry weather moves across the state.

Burning vegetation such as brush and yard waste is the number one cause of unintentional wildfires in Minnesota. Restricting this type of burning in spring has helped reduce wildfires by 30% over the last decade.

Burning restrictions began this morning for Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Carlton, Cass, Clay, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, southern St. Louis County, Stevens, Traverse, Wadena, Wilkin, and Roseau counties.

The state will not issue burning permits for burning brush or yard waste where restrictions are in place.

Restrictions do not impact campfires, fires contained in a charcoal grill, camp stove, or other device designed for cooking or heating.

Burning restrictions will be updated as conditions change. Check current restrictions at mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions

Restrictions remain in place for Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Washington, and Wright counties.

Support Local Emergency Management❗️

Emergency Management is critical to preparing for, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating against natural, human-caused, and technological hazards in our communities and plays a major role in ensuring responses are effective and efficient across multiple agencies and disciplines.

Senate File 2119 and House File 2099 provide much needed funding to local Emergency Management Programs that have been struggling to maintain operations; with 20% grant cuts in 2024 and potentially more on the horizon.

Please help us get the word out by sharing this post and talking with your local legislators. There are currently no funding provisions from the State of Minnesota to fulfill statutorily mandated requirements for EM; with most funding coming from federal grant dollars and local match.
