Michigan's Third Congressional District Democratic Committee (MI3CD) includes Democrats residing in Michigan's Third Congressional District, which consists of specific areas of Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa Counties. We support the election and re-election of Democratic candidates and incumbents up and down the ballot. In particular, we aim to keep our Third Congressional seat Blue, in collaboration with our county parties and the Michigan Democratic Party. This page is dedicated to lifting up our Democratic officials, candidates, and voters.

The Hill We Climb

Excerpts from the poem created and recited by Amanda Gorman at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, January 2021

“When day comes, we ask ourselves,
where can we find light in this never-ending shade...
Somehow, we do it.
Somehow, we’ve weathered
and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken,
but simply unfinished…

That even as we grieved, we grew.
That even as we hurt, we hoped;
that even as we tired, we tried…

And so, we lift our gazes not to what stands between us,
but what stands before us…

The hill we climb if only we dare it...

We did not feel prepared to be the heirs
of such a terrifying hour,
but within it, we found the power
to author a new chapter.
While once we asked,
“How could we possibly prevail over catastrophe?
Now we assert:
How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us…

a country that is bruised, but whole;
benevolent, but bold; fierce and free.
We will not be turned around
or interrupted by intimidation,
because we know our inaction and inertia
will be the inheritance of the next generation…

When day comes, we step out of the shade
aflame and unafraid.
The new dawn blooms as we free it.
For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Michigan's Third Congressional Democratic Committee (MI3CD)

For those who recently became members of the Michigan Democratic Party, the MI3CD is an important aspect of the Party structure, helping Party leadership to interact with all Party members where they live. When you join the MDP and reside in the Third Congressional District, you are automatically a member of the MI3CD. Thanks for joining the MDP in our run-up to the mid-terms of a lifetime!

The MI3CD holds informational meetings, sends this informational email, is a conduit to let Party leadership know what people around here are thinking, and functions to elect delegates for national conventions and statewide Dem committees. Of course, our main aim is to elect Democrats all around the Third!

Labor Day is a tribute to the social and economic contributions of American workers. The holiday grew out of the labor movement in the late 1800s, when workers and labor activists called for better working conditions and recognition of the role workers play in building the country’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City on September 5, 1882. Though several states recognized the holiday before it became national, in 1894, Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September.

The Best of the West event is the time for us to come together and get ready for the work ahead of us this November. In Michigan, we have an open Governor’s seat, Secretary of State seat, Attorney General seat, U.S. Senate seat, competitive U.S. House races, and the entire state House and Senate chambers up for election.

This year at Best of the West, we honor the legacy of Senate Majority leader Winnie Brinks, the first woman ever to hold this office, and we will hear from JD Pritzker (D), Governor of Illinois.

Join us on September 17th to show our strength as we gear up to ensure Michigan Democrats win big on November 3rd. Why is it called Best of the West? It's held in West Michigan!

When: Thursday, September 17th

Where: Downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan
