Join us THIS WEDNESDAY outside the Grand Rapids Retirement System board meeting to DEMAND DIVEST FROM NICE📢📢

Community members will be giving public comment once again, requesting that the board divest $1.1 million from NiCE, an Israeli AI company that sells surveillance technology to U.S. prisons and police departments. Outside, we will be rallying for our demands that the retirement system 1. DIVEST from Nice and 2. Commit to no future investments in any Israeli companies!

As conditions in Palestine continue to escalate in the West Bank, and the zionist entity continues to violate the ceasefire in Gaza, we must confront every person and system that profits off of war, genocide, and ethnic cleaning! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free 🇵🇸⛓️‍💥

Grand Rapids Retirement System Divest from Israeli AI!

Through FOIA requests, Palestine Solidarity Grand Rapids learned that the Grand Rapids Retirement System holds a $1 million investment with NiCE, an Israeli AI firm with offices across the globe. We call on the Grand Rapids Retirement System to follow their colleagues on the state investment board who chose to drop a $10 million Israeli bond and end their investment with NiCE.

NiCE makes AI powered software for businesses and governments. They have offices across the globe with headquarters in Hoboken, NJ and a suburb of Tel-Aviv. NiCE’s stock price has decreased from around $150 to $95 in the past year and from $275 to $95 in the past 5 years. Economically, the investment is a failure. The retirement system has lost money on NiCE and it’d be within the board’s best interest if the money was invested elsewhere.

Divesting from NiCE is the right thing to do. Just as the city of Grand Rapids ended ALL their business withapartheid South Africa, the Grand Rapids Retirement System should end ALL their investments with Israel. Investing in a country that is committing a genocide is the wrong thing to do.

Join us tomorrow to learn how to get involved in the campaign! We'll deliver this petition to the Grand Rapids Investment System at their next board meeting on Wednesday, August 19th at 9am, inside the Grand Rapids Masonic Temple. We believe the board will do the right thing but it is on us to show up and present our demands!

The people of Grand Rapids want our tax dollars out of Israel. The Grand Rapids Retirement System has over $1,000,000 invested in Israeli AI surveillance company, NiCE. Public funds should be invested ethically and conscientiously, not in companies that profit off of zionist apartheid and genocide.

We are eager and excited to enter this new phase of struggle against U.S. imperialism equipped with knowledge from our peers across the county! 🇵🇸🇨🇺🇻🇪🇮🇷🇸🇩

Last month we attended a public board meeting for the Grand Rapids Retirement System to demand that they divest from a $1 million holding in the Israeli AI company, NiCE. The Retirement System now has until August 19th--the date of their next board meeting--to prove to the people of Grand Rapids that they can make the right choice with taxpayer money.

It should be noted that there's a recent precedent in Michigan for divestment from Israel. Last December, the State Retirement Board divested from a $10 million Israeli bond. And just recently, the UAW voted at its convention in Detroit to divest completely from its Israeli bond holdings. This is a sign that times are changing, but the work must be continued, especially by those living in the US.
