🛠️ Introducing Our Monthly STEM Invention Journey!
This year, Ellen Ochoa STEM Academy is launching a 7-month family project building up to our grand STEM Expo Night in March 2027!
Don't worry—we are breaking this down into tiny, fun, monthly steps. Every month, your child will explore a cool new career pathway while building a simple invention right at home.
Our journey has kicked off this month with September's Theme: Spotting Everyday Problems!
Our first mini-step: Explore

Month 1: September 2026 –
"What's the Problem?" (The STEM Thinker)
Focus Area: Literacy, Problem Identification, and Critical Thinking.
CTE Exposure Connection: Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (Research & Development).
Monthly Initiative Goal:
Families, sit together and look around your house, school, or community to find one small everyday problem that needs solving (e.g., “The dog’s water bowl always spills,” or “My shoelaces keep coming untied”). Eventually, this problem will relate to an invention your child will create using everyday tools in your home to resolve it.
This month, parents, support your child/ren in noticing any frustrations but don’t give your child/ren any answers on how to resolve/solve this problem (not yet).
To help keep us all connected and supported, we have three simple monthly checkpoints:
1) 📸 Share Progress:
Accountability Pic: Take a photo of the student holding a notebook detailing a written or drawn "Problem Statement."
This will be posted in the CCMR/CTE Stem Invention Journey Room in Rooms by Apptegy, remember you must register first to be added (look at the link below).

3) 💻 Live Family Support: Struck on an idea? Want to show off your progress? Join the Counselor, Family Liaison, and STEM Coordinator live on Microsoft Teams on the last Tuesday of every month from 4:00pm to 4:30pm for an optional, casual Q&A and show-and-tell session! September’s session will be on Tuesday, 9/29/25.

🛠️ ¡Presentamos nuestra Ruta Mensual de Invención STEM!
Este año, la Academia STEM Ellen Ochoa lanzará un proyecto familiar de 7 meses que nos preparará para nuestra gran Noche de la Expo STEM en marzo de 2027. ¡No se preocupen! Dividiremos este proyecto en pequeños y divertidos pasos mensuales. Cada mes, su hijo(a) explorará una nueva y emocionante ruta profesional mientras construye un invento sencillo directamente en casa.
¡Nuestro viaje este mes ya comenzó con el Tema de Septiembre:

Aquí está nuestro primer minipaso:
Parte 1: Ruta Mensual de la Iniciativa para Estudiantes y Padres
Mes 1: Septiembre 2026 – Explorar
"¿Cuál es el problema?" (El pensador STEM)
Área de enfoque:
Alfabetización, identificación de problemas y pensamiento crítico.
Conexión con la carrera (CTE):
Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (Investigación y Desarrollo).
Meta mensual de la iniciativa:
Familias, sientense juntos y observen su casa, escuela o comunidad para encontrar un pequeño problema cotidiano que necesite solución (por ejemplo: "El plato de agua del perro siempre se cae" o "Mis agujetas se desatan a cada rato").
Padres, motiven al estudiante/s en notar los problemas cotidianos sin darles la respuesta directamente de cómo resolverse (aún no).
Para ayudarnos a mantenernos conectados y apoyados, tendremos tres puntos de control mensuales muy sencillos:
1) 📸 Compartan el progreso:
Foto de evidencia (Accountability Pic): Ya que se haya registrado y agregado al grupo en Rooms by Apptegy usted enviará una foto del estudiante sosteniendo un cuaderno que muestre su "Declaración del problema" escrita o dibujada.

💻 Apoyo familiar en vivo: ¿Se quedaron estancados con una idea? ¿Quieren mostrar su progreso? ¡Únanse a la Consejera Escolar y al Coordinador de STEM en vivo a través de Microsoft Teams el último martes de cada mes de 4:00pm a 4:30pm! Esta será una sesión opcional y casual de preguntas, respuestas y demostraciones.
El mes de septiembre nos reuniremos el martes, 9/29/26.
