Memorial Day weekend unofficially kicks off boating season here in Michigan, with more people heading to lakes, rivers, and waterways across the state.

Before heading out on the water, take a few minutes to review the boating safety tips in this post and talk through them with everyone onboard. Many boating accidents involve preventable situations, and a little preparation can make a significant difference once you’re out on the water.

Whether you’re spending the weekend fishing, cruising, or enjoying time with family and friends, small safety decisions matter.

Please help us keep your friends and family safe and share this post! Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend on the water. 🌊

It’s easy to lose awareness without realizing it.

Looking at your phone while walking through a parking lot. Wearing headphones that block out surrounding noise. Moving in and out of spaces without noticing who or what is nearby.

Nothing about it feels unsafe in the moment. But those are the times when awareness is lowest.

Most situations don’t start with something obvious. They start with small gaps in attention.

Staying aware doesn’t mean overthinking everything. It just means keeping your attention in the right place as you move through everyday situations.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we recognize the unseen 911 professionals who are the first point of contact in every emergency—providing calm, clarity, and strength in moments of chaos. Their work demands dedication, empathy, and resilience, forming the very foundation of public safety response. This week, and every week, we celebrate and thank those who answer the call.

April is Autism Awareness Month!

In public safety, awareness is just the starting point. What really matters is recognizing what’s going on and adjusting how we communicate in the moment, especially when a caller may be processing things differently.

We’re carrying that into a MAC Message on June 2, Autism Awareness for 911 Communication. It’s a two-hour session built around real situations, focused on helping telecommunicators better understand these calls, gather the right information, and respond in a way that supports safer outcomes.

Registration is open now. Check out this session and the other MAC Messages coming up in early June.
