What an honor to be part of the Western Slope screening of Becoming Colorado at CMU’s Asteria Theatre last night.

As Colorado celebrates 150 years of statehood and our nation marks 250 years, Becoming Colorado is helping bring our state’s history to life for the next generation. The five-part documentary series was created for Colorado students, sharing the people, places and events that have shaped our state through stories rooted in communities across Colorado.

We were grateful to experience Episode One, Our Land, Our Roots, right here in Grand Junction and to see Western Colorado included in this statewide story.

Even more exciting, the series will live beyond this celebration as a resource for Colorado classrooms, with educators developing accompanying lessons for students in grades 4, 8 and high school.

Thank you to the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission, Colorado Mesa University Foundation and the many partners who helped bring this special evening to our community. Colorado’s story belongs to all of us, and we’re proud to see the Western Slope helping tell it.

Last week, we were proud to co-host a Colorado Competitiveness Roundtable in partnership with the Governor’s Office, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Grand Junction Economic Partnership, and the Economic Development Council of Colorado - EDCC at Colorado Mesa University.

Employers, industry leaders, economic development professionals, and local officials came together for honest conversations about what businesses need to grow, invest, and create jobs in Colorado. The discussions covered regulatory predictability, speed to market, access to capital, infrastructure, and the importance of recognizing that economic development looks different across urban and rural communities.

We are especially grateful to the businesses and local partners who took time away from their work to show up, share their experiences, and offer thoughtful ideas. Their firsthand perspectives are essential to understanding how policies work in practice and where opportunities exist to improve.

We also appreciate our state and regional partners for listening directly to Western Colorado’s business community. Conversations like these help build greater understanding and create opportunities for more thoughtful, practical policy.

The Chamber will continue ensuring the voice of business is part of the conversation as we work together to strengthen Colorado’s competitiveness.
