August 26, 2025 FINAL Daily Update for Turner Gulch Fire

Transfer of command from Mike Behren’s Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team #3 to a local Type 3 incident management team will occur at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27. This is the last daily update to be published for the Turner Gulch Fire. Information will be posted to the Turner Gulch Fire Colorado page and Inciweb as needed. We thank the local communities for the support during this extended firefighting effort.
Operations: The masticator finished chipping fuels near the Calamity Mine yesterday and will be released. The excavator is continuing to repair and rehabilitate suppression lines on the southeast lobe of the fire. Backhaul of resources is ongoing, and crews are still patrolling and ensuring control lines are secure.
Members of the incoming team shadowed the outgoing team to become familiar with current operations on the fire. Right-sizing of resources continues as assets are released or reassigned to other incidents.

Fire Weather & Behavior: Thanks to cooler temperatures and persistent cloud cover, the Turner Gulch Fire remained largely inactive again yesterday. Higher chances of showers and thunderstorms is expected to be present for most of the week with storms bringing more rainfall to the incident.
Mesa County has issued a flood watch for today. There are the possibilities of debris flows or soil movement from the burned landscape on the Turner Gulch Fire.
Smoke & Air Quality: The Turner Gulch Fire is producing little to no smoke. The area may be impacted by smoke produced by local burning activities. Air quality conditions can be monitored at AirNow.gov.
Evacuations: There are currently no evacuations for this incident.
Closures & Fire Restrictions: Closures remain in effect for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests.
