This year’s Western Colorado Children's Water Festival was a blast! Every year we are privileged with the opportunity to share with local 5th graders the importance of managing stormwater pollution. These students are always so engaged and eager to become the best stewards they can be! Thank you Ute Water Conservancy District for another great year!

Day #1 of Western Colorado Children's Water Festival was a great success! We love teaching our local students about the importance of stormwater runoff and all the ways we can help prevent pollutants such as oils, fertilizers, animal waste, and sediments from entering our rivers and waterways!

Thanks to Ute Water Conservancy District for hosting this incredible educational event every year!

Mesa County businesses can help keep stormwater clean by following simple best practices:

• Store materials securely and clean up spills promptly.
• Sweep instead of hosing down areas.
• Properly dispose of chemicals, oils, and waste.
• Use erosion control and manage runoff if you’re in landscaping or construction.

Summer is here and river recreation is increasing in the Grand Valley! Please be safe and wear a life jacket when on the river. The Save-A-Life Jacket Program has life jacket stations near all local boat ramps to help our community enjoy the water safely. These jackets are free to use, just return them at the take-out when you get out of the water. Also, if you paddle board, please do not use a standard ankle leash. Ankle leashes are made for flat water and are a potential entrapment on the river. You can buy a much safer quick release leash locally from The Gear Junction, Wet Dreams River Supply Grand Junction, or Grand Junction Adventures. Be safe out there!
