Mesa County Libraries Social Media Guidelines

Mesa County Libraries social media sites are intended to provide a way for residents of Mesa County and others with an interest in the library to connect with us. The sites provide information about library events, services, and operations, and the library welcomes interaction with the public about library related topics. Mesa County Libraries social

media sites operate as limited public forums and are moderated by library staff. Users must follow some basic rules:

● All posts and commentary must be respectful, civil, and relevant to the topic at hand or to the library in general.

● Comments that are profane, lewd, or otherwise offensive will be deleted.

● The library will delete posts and comments that:

○ Contain language or innuendo that is profane in nature.

○ Contain personal attacks or derogatory comments about any individual’s appearance or
character.

○ Contain comments, information, or images that violate Colorado law protecting the privacy of library patrons.

○ Are off-topic or nonsensical.

○ Promote discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, or national origin.

○ Contain unsolicited commercial messages, content, or advertising (e.g., spam).

○ Contain sexual content or links to sexual content.

○ Contain content or images that violate copyright or other legal rights or interests of any person.

○ In any way advocate or condone illegal conduct.

○ Contain threats or other information that compromise the safety or security of library patrons, staff, or facilities, or any other public facility.

○ Contain content that supports or opposes the nomination, retention, or election of any person to public office, or that urges voters to vote in favor or against any ballot issue or referred measure, or that contains links to political campaign or candidate websites.

○ Contain defamatory remarks against the library or individuals.

● Individuals who fail to observe the social media guidelines by making persistent, repeated or chronic comments may be blocked from making further comments on MCL social media platforms for a period of time and reported to the specific social media platform. Recurring offenses may elevate the penalty.

● The rules listed here are subject to amendment or modification at any time without prior notice. Questions and concerns about posts on Mesa County Libraries social media sites may be directed to:

Join us from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Fruita Branch Library to learn about Medicare Savings Programs to help people with limited income and resources pay for some or all of their Medicare premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. An attorney from Colorado Legal Services will present the different types of Medicare Savings Programs and their eligibility criteria. The attorney will provide general information, not legal advice. We'll collect samples from the Mesa County Libraries Discovery Garden, view them under a microscope, and make a microorganism-themed craft. No registration required. First come, first served.
