Mesa County Valley School District 51

Mesa County Valley School District 51 School District 51 is the largest district on the West Slope of CO,
14th largest in the State. Mesa County Valley School District uses social media (e.g.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) to further the mission and vision of the District and regards social media as an extension of the District’s educational mission, including the promotion of respectful and thoughtful civic discourse. The District uses social media to communicate positivity and unity in our school district, as well as important information concerning the District and its s

chools, such as school-sponsored events, programs, student and staff achievements and recognitions, and other school-related subject matters and topics. The District’s use of these sites is restricted to topics and content related to legitimate educational purposes. The District’s social media sites are regularly monitored to ensure that the sites’ use is limited to the purposes discussed above and organized in a manner that enhances navigation. Thus, even when there is an opportunity to comment on a District post, the District may hide or delete comments that are unrelated to the subject matter or topic of the original post, unsuitable for a K-12 environment, inconsistent with the District’s educational mission, or interferes with the District’s obligation to provide a welcoming educational environment for all students. Any comments expressed on District social media sites in response to District content do not reflect the opinions and positions of the District, its directors, or staff. Similarly, links to other internet sites that appear in comments of other posts should not be construed as the District’s endorsement of the content or views presented on those sites. The following rules apply to all visitors to this page:
- Be Kind and Courteous. In simple terms, be nice. We are here to uplift our students and our district. There are other venues for complaints, concerns, and other topics that would be better addressed in a one-on-one fashion, including calls and emails to a specific school, the district, or a particular department.
- No Hate Speech, Bullying or Harassment – period. Any kind of this communication is not allowed and will be removed.
- Comments not related to a post will be removed. There are always options for your concerns to be heard. Please see the list below as a place to start.
- If you do not follow the rules above and continue to have your comments removed, you will also be removed from the site. Where to get help:
- Think your child might be in a peer conflict or bullying situation? Go here for more information. Or you can contact safe2tell.org.
- Not getting text messages from your school or district? Text Yes to 67587 (you can add this number to your contacts under District Texts so you know they are coming from the district and not spam)

🏆🍎Congratulations to our September Golden Apple winner – Travis Carpenter at Orchard Mesa Middle School🏆🍎

Mr. Carpenter is truly an exceptional educator who consistently goes above and beyond for his students and school community. As an ELA teacher, he brings enthusiasm, compassion, and a positive attitude to his classroom each day, creating an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and valued.

What truly sets Mr. Carpenter apart is his commitment to students beyond the classroom. He volunteers with the Wildlife program every other Monday and regularly attends students’ extracurricular activities. From track meets and basketball games to band performances, Mr. Carpenter makes a point to show up, cheer students on, and celebrate their accomplishments.

His positivity and encouragement extend well beyond his own classroom. Students from other schools have even taken notice of the energy and enthusiasm he brings to every interaction. His genuine investment in students and their success makes a lasting difference throughout our school community.

🚲 Fruitvale Takes on Bullying - BMX Style!

Professional BMX riders brought big tricks and an even bigger message to Fruitvale Elementary last week: kindness, connection, and looking out for one another.

Creating a strong sense of well-being and belonging is a priority across D51, and it takes all of us- schools, families, and community partners - to make sure every student feels connected, supported, and valued. 💙

Shoutout to Principal Angela Galyon and the Fruitvale staff for making it happen!

We’re proud to celebrate the people and schools that embody what it means to belong. At R-5 High School, that culture shows up in the way students and staff show up for one another.

Each month, R-5 brings the whole school together to celebrate staff and students, creating a simple tradition that makes a big impact on belonging.

👏 September Teacher of the Month: Katherine Beeler, recognized for building meaningful connections and consistently showing patience, respect, positivity, and understanding.

🎉 September Student of the Month: Ely Rubalcave, recognized for showing up, being a good friend, and helping others feel supported and connected.

September is Attendance Awareness Month! 📚

Every day at school matters. It’s another opportunity for students to learn, build relationships, participate, and feel connected to their school community.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing reminders and resources with families about the importance of regular attendance and how we can work together to remove barriers that may keep students from being at school.

And to our students: there’s a place for you here. ❤️

🏆🍎Congratulations to our August Golden Apple Winner, Fruitvale Elementary's Mrs. Kari Perez!🏆🍎

Kari Perez was nominated for the Golden Apple Award for her outstanding dedication to Fruitvale Elementary and its students. She wrote grants and worked tirelessly to secure new playground equipment for both the Intermediate playground and the future Primary playground, creating safe, engaging, and inclusive spaces for students to learn, play, and grow. Beyond the playground project, Kari is an active member of the PTA, helped transform the teachers’ lounge, works hard to plan family nights, and brings energy and excitement to her classroom. Her hard work, creativity, persistence, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the entire Fruitvale community.
