Today we celebrate 102 years of the U.S. Border Patrol, established May 28, 1924. For over a century, USBP has safeguarded our nation’s borders, adapting to new challenges and threats. We honor those who serve and look forward to many more years of excellence. Happy 102nd!

On May 13, Chief Jason Schneider from the U.S. Border Patrol HQ Law Enforcement Operations Directorate led a town hall meeting at Buffalo Sector to discuss initiatives, challenges, and successes. He answered questions about operations and the future of Border Patrol, highlighting teamwork and commitment.

With deep sadness, Buffalo Sector mourns our own Border Patrol Agent Sean McDonough, who passed away on May 1, 2026. Sean’s life was defined by service, dedication, and love for his family. Born in Ithaca, NY, Sean served in the National Guard and U.S. Army before joining the U.S. Border Patrol Agency, earning honors for his commitment. Sean was a devoted husband and a loving father to his children, his greatest pride. He cherished time with his family, especially supporting his daughters’ Irish step dancing and celebrating holidays with big Irish meals. Sean was active in his church and community, fluent in several languages, and passionate about metal detecting. His legacy is one of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sean’s family, friends, and colleagues. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The U.S. Border Patrol mourns the loss of Border Patrol Agent Sean M. McDonough.

Agent McDonough began his USBP career in 2007 and most recently served at the Wellesley Island Border Patrol Station in the Buffalo Sector, New York. Over the course of his service, he also served at the Nogales Station and in the Houlton Sector. Prior to joining USBP, he honorably served in the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard, and as a Military Police Officer.

Agent McDonough dedicated his life to serving his country and protecting the American people.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and fellow agents during this difficult time.

U.S. Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted targeted enforcement operations on a vehicle registered to a Honduran citizen with no legal status in the United States.
When agents approached the vehicle, all occupants attempted to flee. Four individuals were arrested. All four are Honduran citizens who did not possess valid immigration documents.
Subsequent record checks showed that two of the individuals had previously been deported from the United States. One of those individuals had been removed after a conviction for Felony Sexual Assault of a Child.
All four individuals are being deported in accordance with federal law. This operation highlights the importance of coordinated border security and law enforcement partnerships in identifying immigration violations and enhancing public safety.

Erie, PA – Erie Station Targeting Unit and ICE/ERO, conducted a targeted operation resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals, including one MS-13 gang member. The swift and precise actions of our agents and partners enhanced public safety by removing dangerous individuals from the community.
